Insurance Premiums for Street3?
Hi, all --
I'm new to the forum and about to be new to the world of Triumph ownership because...well, last Saturday I couldn't hold out any longer (after reading postings on this forum, the Triumph web site, and the rave reviews) and ordered a jet black Street Triple.
And sometimes you know you just made the right decision!
Anyway, I called my insurance agent today and asked for a quote. They didn't have any information on the bike yet and suggested that I try back in a couple of weeks (which is fine, because at this point I won't be trading in my SV650S until January).
Has anyone else gotten a quote or have any idea what premiums are going to run (relative to other bikes)?
Regards,
Don (future R.A.T.!!!)

I'd like to start by saying "know your enemy"! I think my story will be very useful to you.
I'm just about to turn 40. I live near Gatwick airport and have been back on a bike sine 2002 with 2 crashes that were both someone else's fault so no claims and I have a clean license (to date)!
When I was first looking at the Street I had received quotesfor much larger bikes. I was looking at 900 - 1000cc bikes and so knew that my new bike would be more expensive than my SV650s which I had just renewed the inusrance on at aroun £120 for the year.
For reference a second hand Speed Triple 1050 was quoted by MCE at £303.
This morning I phone for the Street and got a quote of £340 for the Street. I was quite shocked and queried it. They told me that the Street triple is a higher insurance classification than the Speed and it's new. I replied that the logic doesn't fit. The street is a higher insurance group (according to a few websites such as Motorcycle news) BUT the Speed is bigger, faster, more powerfull and although second hand it was more expensive £6995 compared to £5900 (second hand Speed versus the Street with the options I picked which included the Alram/immobiliser).
After the nice lady went to chat "with her manager" she came back with the same price as the Speed (£303) full comp, protected no claims bonus etc... etc...
You can call MCE on 0870 010 1125 and see if you get anywhere based on what I got quoted. I was pretty happy with this quote but based on my experience it pays not to take the first quote!
One other point: It seems to help a lot with some companies like MCE if you have a "realistic" figure that you want them to beat. The first time I started dealing with them I was looking at a Benelli Tornado. A dealer told me that I should ask them to beat £350 and they came back with £341. I told the dealer that I should have asked them to beat £300 but the dealer told me that the insurers are not stupid.

I doubt they'll give much of a break to someone living in New York City.
It does illustrate, though, the lack of any evident common sense in the insurance industry. Some time this month, we should begin receiving our bikes here in the States, Don, so then we'll start fighting the same battles here.

I have phone quite a few insurance companies up to get a idea as to the cost of the street triple insurance premium, none had been given a grouping by their underwriters yet because the bike was so new. All they could do was to give a like for like quote.

That's what I realized this morning; that NO ONE has any experience yet with insuring a Street3, but that we'll all start finding out soon enough. I'll stay tuned....
I did do a quick check with Progressive online, using the Daytona 675 and my current SV coverage parameters.
That was a scary way to start the morning.

Sorry Don,
I should have checked your location before posting but with that said, there are UK bikers that use this formum and I think the more general aspects of my post are still valid.
The Street should be cheaper than the Daytona and Speed BUT if you don't think to ask for those quotes or have them handy from previous ownership you are looking at whatever figure the insurer dreams up.

I initially phoned for insurance for the Street triple and because they didnt have it on their books they quoted me for the Daytona.... £1500.... hahaha.
Quickly told them where to go.
Went to the AA and got it down to £750 Dam my lack of no-claims

Have you tried Carole Nash? I have no ncd and have only been riding since Feb. My 57-plate S3 1050 is £600 fc, which I think is ok (although I might be able to get it cheaper if I shopped around, I like the green card for european travel and europe-wide breakdown assistance, which I've used already!).
e-bike insurance are also quite cheap, but they might struggle with the new bike...

EDIT: forgot to mention that these quotes are from Foremost. Progressive was higher.
