Thruxton to a Street Triple R

Hey everyone...jumping over from the twins section. I currently have a nicely modified 2011 Thruxton, but have been craving a more performance oriented bike. The Street Triple R looks like a great fit for what I want. I'd love to hear some opinions from anyone who made the move from a Thruxton/Bonneville to one of the triples.

Any regrets?

I bought a 2012 thruxton this year, then a few months after my purchase I rode a Street Triple R. I couldn't believe the mistake I had made.

I since sold the thruxton and now have a 2012 STR, I have put 3000kms on it. No regrets - I should never have bought the thruxton!

I love old bikes and used to own a Bonny. The Triple is the new classic/standard Brit bike. 25 years from now, young guys will drool over them the way we do a BSA, Commando, CB750.

Replaced my Thruxton with a ST3R and NEVER looked back! After owning about 30 bikes in my 35 years of riding, none compare in terms of street handling and nimbleness.

Well...everyone I have asked has told me the same thing...looks like I'll be heading to the dealer to check out the first 2013 R that shows up in my area...

I love the classic coolness of the Thrux..but to be honest..it's just not a good performer. A great bike to run around town, but it does not want to be pushed

I've had 2 Thruxtons and now own a Street Triple R . You can't even compare them .. The handling of a STR is telepathic when a Thruxton wants to throw you off in the twisties . If you're used to just grabbing and twisting the throttle like you would on a Thruxton you'll eventually kill yourself on a STR . I miss some of the charm of the Thruxton but all and all the STR is a MUCH MUCH better bike . Maintenance wise you can kiss your $250 12k service like the Thruxton goodbye . However the ST3 675 motor can go quite a few miles over 12k with no need for a valve adjustment unlike the Thruxton if you're not redlining it .
If you like the charm of the retro attitude of the Thruxton you'll either love or hate the ST3 . Despite almost trading my STR twice I always take that ride home and say " Screw trading her " in the end . I love mine . Just as fast as a Speed Triple but less torque ( I'm right on that . I've ridden quite a few Speed Triples ) due to the much lighter weight . Mine is a 2012 R model in white and it's just so pretty .
