Hey David I just found this new video posted by a dealer of the Black 2013 "R". Freakin looks awesome! The black version looks better in this video than in the official press photos, I think.

Bumping this back up - just wondered if you went with the gray after all? Just looking for any feedback on paint maintenance and the gray matte. I see there were older models ('09) with the matte...but not sure if similar process for the '13 St3 or not...Definitely going 2013 St3 R version, but the color...
Bottom line, I'm reading opposite things on the interwebs about matte finish - I love the '13 gray matte, but I really want to ride, and not worry about immediately removing anything off the matte finish, washing more frequently with matte specific cleansers and detailers, etc.
Both the black and the white 'R' present two great (if plan b) options - I'm obsessing on this decision lol! I have a street cruiser that I keep out of the rain, in garage/under cover too...it's always clean...the St3 I just wanna ride and ride and ride (ETA May 1 '13 purchase).
Thanks!

I saw the white at the bike show in January and the matte grey at the shop in February. I put the deposit down, and eventually took delivery of the white one. The matte just didn't do it for me, but there are a few who did get the matte. I've never had a matte bike, so I can't comment on its care.

Thanks for follow up! The white is striking, no doubt. Congrats on the bike, btw!

My wife and I recently picked up a 2013 in matte graphite. There is no reason to fear matte paint, in some ways it's easier to care for than non-matte. Bottom line is to use a wash that is PH Balanced for matte paint. Dr. Beaseley's make a quality product, but as matte paint seems to be becoming increasingly popular, I am sure there are plenty of others, with more appearing.
Follow that up with a spray wax polish for matte paint such as the Dr. Beasely's or Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte Detailer.

The matte finish is fantastic and does not show the 'swirly' marks of clear coat that you see after a few years. Simply wash with high quality car wash soap, rinse and dry, and use a light detailer wax like Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Spray that does not leave any white residue upon drying. Mine still looks factory fresh after two years. Of course any paint will scratch if one is careless. - Wayne
