boiled antifreeze today :(

I was riding today for lunch (+32 C) and when I was parking after a 5 miles ride in the city I saw antifreeze poring on the belly cowl

I could not see where exactly it was leaking from, but I lost about 300 ml of antifreeze

I took the seat off and the antifreeze in the expansion tank was boiling.

not high pressure though (I took the cap off)

the coolant temp indicator was showing the usual all bars less last two - so the usual operating temp

is there a release valve that let the antifreeze out or something actually break and the bike is not ride-able to the garage?

sorry for the noob questions but this is my first bike and any help is much appreciated

to be honest, I have been hearing strange noise after I was parking my bike, but always thought that is coming from the petrol tank and had something to do with the petrol pump - was thinking of looking at it soon.

it turns out, it was the antifreeze boiling under the seat

this boiling wasn't there before for sure...could it have something to do with my accident 2 weeks ago when the bike slid on the right side?

are there any pipes on the right side which could have been catched (strangulated) by the radiator plastic cover?

went to see the level of coolant half and hour after the incident.

If when it was boiling, I could see plenty of antifreeze in the expansion tank, now (30 min later) the expansion tank is dry

does it mean there is NO coolant in the system (radiator) at all?!

or could it be that it is there but not enough to rise to the level of the expansion tank due the loss antifreeze during the boiling and therefore expansion of the liquid?

I would not ride it home. You dont want to ride with not enough coolant for one, and second, if the antifreeze is boiling over but your gauges dont read a high temp you have issues.

can you tell me what issues should I be concerned with?

I could help me to narrow down my repair if I would eliminate some of the most obvious (or find the cause in the process)

It is just that the expansion tank was probably over-filled. The level should be between the min and max marks with the bike cold and vertical. The level only goes up about a half inch from cold to hot. Although the fan will come on and hold the temp steady it is not a good idea to ride very slowly or idle for a long time in very hot weather. You won't get engine damage unless a lot of coolant is lost and the engine temp goes off-scale high. I suspect the ECU will shut down the engine on very high temp anyway. If the temp guage reads normally when riding at speed then the thermostat is ok. The ECU map has a temperature setting for the fan to come on and maybe a Triumph tech can check this. - Wayne
