It sure sounds like you have air in the system. Do you have access to a manual? There is a procedure for refilling the system that you may want to follow. It involves removing caps, tipping the bike, etc.

I have read the manual (the joint one for Daytona and Street Triple) - I don't recall there anything on this...if someone can provide a link to the document describing this procedure I would appreciate.

below is all that my manual has on coolant change:

"Coolant Change
Have the coolant changed by an authorised
Triumph dealer in accordance with scheduled
maintenance requirements."

You need the factory service manual. I'll see if I can get a scan up when I get home.

Bloody hell, that's the most complicated cooling system refill method I've ever seen! Having to use a vacuum pump and tipping the bike over is quite nuts.

So forget everything I said about leaking head gasket, as it could just be air still trapped in the system that needs bleeding out using the official Triumph method.

And that "mechanic" telling you straight away that the head gasket needs changing is definitely one to be avoided, seems he/she is looking to get rich quick!

I'll share my dirty little secret.

http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/p-73...ew-550000.aspx

Only took 10 minutes to change coolant and no awkward bleeding.

I originally got the tool for my car that has 2 radiators and 5 gallons of coolant.

The coolant was overfilled and when it gets hot the coolant pushes up to the overflow tank. This pushes the overflow of coolant out the line down to ground. No big deal.

no, it all started after the accident (I still do not have a 100% proof that this is not a coincidence) - I was not adding any coolant before it started spiting it out, therefore 1. the tank was not overfilled first time it happened; 2. when it cools down, the expansion tank is dry (I think there should be at least some coolant there to the min mark, no?)

well it seems that she just wanted to be tilted a little bit - I have done the tilting from one side to another as per John's instructions - my problem is gone!!! (2 rides of testing in cool weather so far)

Many thanks John and everybody who helped (even if it wasn't what some of you suggested, but it helps in diagnosis!)

this forum is great!
