Hi, I recently encountered a problem with my st3. Early morning was planning to go out. Started the bike to let it warm up. 15sec later the bike sounded like someone pulled the choke or ran out of fuel. RPM began to drop and the bike died. Tried to re start the bike, 1st attempt manage to start but the bike still sounded choked, RPM low. Slowly turned the throttle but no difference. 3 secs later the bike died again. 2nd attempt too a few more cranks but same problem. After that I switched off the ignition and waited for a few minutes. Tried to start the bike again. Fuel pump can be heard priming and lights go on/off as normal. Cranked it but bike doesnt start. Tired for a few times still no avail. Pushed the bike down a slope to try and jump start it, 1st time manage to start, same sounded choke and lasted for 1 sec before dying again. After that nothing happened on the 2nd and 3rd try. Rear wheel just locked up. Tried in 1st & 2nd gear. Kept cranking till no juice left.

Any advice? Sorry for the long story. I'm a poor narrator.

Bike just changed EO
3/4 tank fuel
No drops, didn't ride the bike for 1 day. Was still fine when I rode it the day before.

If your bike is more than a year or two old it may have the old style R/R (rectifier/regulator) located behind the engine in front of the rear wheel. These tend to overheat in hot weather (like you get in Singapore) and weird things happen just before they go completely. The replacement kit is T1301234 ($220 here in Canada) and is a much better unit. Also check for loose/corroded connectors, battery connections etc. You should also check for bad gasoline contaminated with water. If the 'check engine' light is on then maybe the dealer can find the trouble code. - Wayne

I was also thinking it was water in the gas. Try 1/4 to 1/3 of a bottle of Heat in your tank. Charge the battery and crank it for a while till the Heat treated fuel has a chance to work down to your FIs.

Ill add a note on this thread, this probably isn't your problem, but my bike died, wouldn't start, took more and more tinkering with the kickstands clutch kill switch and shifter each time to get it to start, then I realized it wouldn't start because the electronic clutch switch had come slightly unplugged at the clutch lever, all I did was push it back in an the bike runs fine.

Got the bike down to mechanic and he said that the bike was having problems with the fuel pump. It had stopped pumping fuel into the injector. I don't know nuts about this so all I can do it just sit and wait. They said that the bike needs a new fuel pump. Which costs about S$900. Is it about the same price over there? Thanks people.
