Hello, new to this forum and looking for some advice.
I currently own a 2003 Buell Lightning and I am looking at a new street triple to replace the Buell. Are there any former Buell owners here that can give me some advise on the difference between the two. I like the torque of the Buell and I was wondering if the triple is as good pulling off idle. Also curious about the cornering on the Triumph, is it as fun as my Buell. I appreciate any info.

I ran an '02 Buell X1W (well...what I kept of it) in a southern twins series for a season, going from the Buell to the Street Triple will be like going from a 60's muscle car to a modern sports car. It just does everything better. Your biggest adjustment will be learning not to short shift it. It does well in the lower RPM range but the real fun is well above where the Buell would be spitting pistons :D

I still love the original Lightnings for what they where and wish I still had one but I wouldn't give up my ST3R to have it back.

When I bought my bike I was surprised at how torquey my STR was even in top gear from low revs, and that is what sealed the deal. According to the stats in Cycle World the STR is very close (or better!) to some 1000cc sport bikes in the roll-on times; 40 - 60mph in 3.3 sec and 60-80mph in 3.6 sec in top gear. I think the Street Triple is better suited to the averaged sized rider and taller heavier guys should check out the Speed Triple. My Street Triple R is light and a fantastic handler, and lots of aftermarket mods are available to make it even better. - Wayne
