service costs

Hi all,

I am considering an ST3 in the very near future. What are the average costs for routine service on this bike, specifically in Canada, and bonus marks for in the Greater Toronto Area.

I currently have a BMW f800s and usually leave the dealer ~$800 lighter for routine service.

Cheers, all

In my area (Boston, MA) service cost about $90.00/hr plus parts. The shop that I use gives me a break on the overall cost when I have several things done at the same time.

That's a pretty general question....what do you consider routine service..??

Some riders only take their bikes in to the dealer if they absolutely have to while others will take it in just to have the chain adjusted. Most I would say do their own oil changes, chain adjustments, and basic safety checks, which would be my definition of routine maintenance.

Maybe a rider in your area can answer your question if you have a specific service item in mind. (valve adjustments, etc.)

This is very dealer specific. Depending on location prices can vary by 200% or more.

Another major component of the ownership cost equation is mpg. My F800S always got 55-59mpg/us. The triples tend to be thursty buggers....

Why would mpg be a service cost? Do the F800S models have as many recalls and problems as the 800GS?

maybe the distance to your dealer? some people are not fortunate enough to have a dealer nearby, or even in the same state... but other than that, i dont see why mpg really matters there.

Well Grasshopper, no need to get your dander up. I was thinking along the line of total cost of ownership, silly me!

When I owned a Daytona675 with full Ti race exhaust and tune I as lucky to get 36mph on the street, Closer to 30 mph on the track.

No recalls on my '08 while I owned it. The F800R really is a different bike but the same motor, no comparison.

We just paid $245 for an 18K service. I did the oil change. 12, 24, 36K intervals involve valve clearance checks which require much more labor. At least double the cost if no issues are discovered. I have no qualms with the cost as I trust this particular mechanic and dealership whole-heartedly. $90 an hour shop rate.

I think $90/hr is probably ball-park. That's what my Triumph dealer charges.
