4k rpm vibration

Good evening all,

Maybe someone will be able to enlighten me on this...

Riding my Street recently I noticed a very new (unless I didn't notice it before) and distinctive vibration right at 4000 rpm that goes to about 5000 rpm. This is under semi heavy acceleration with maybe 40-60% throttle. I've noticed it in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. Wondering if this is something normal or should I mention this to my dealer when I take it in to them next week.

As an added note this vibration is very different from the "normal" vibrations I feel the engine making and after 5000 rpm the engine is a smooth as ever. Any info will be much appreciated.

From a Triple review: "Power builds steadily until about 5000 rpm when the nylon fuel tank cover begins to shiver between your legs from the vibes below, providing warning that the hammer is cocked and ready to fire. As the three-pot sound begins to deliciously wrap around itself, a snappy midrange pull launches the bike in a manner unlike a common Four or Twin. "

Edit: Missed your added note. So it's different from the distinct vibrations at about 5k?

Seems smooth to me at all rpm ranges. I've heard about a vibration on triples but after 200k miles I never noticed it.

Oh really. Cool, easy fix then, thanks.

LOL, very good discription.

Now that I think of it the "vibration" at 4k may be more like a flat spot like Tongie_ mentioned.

Without riding your bike thats the best i can come up with.. it's a known problem. Often the two coincide..

I to have the vibration you talk about. I had the 1st service carried out at 800 miles about 2 weeks ago. Last weekend I rode to the Valencia Moto GP, about a 1000 mile round trip. I bombed up there at a consistent 100mph about 8500 to 9000 rpm ( I have the cowl and smoked screen fitted). The bike has now done about 2000 miles. This morning when I started and left for work I noticed this heavy vibe that shakes the seat and the fly screen assembly and is very audible due to the screen vibes. This is totally new, it wasn't doing it the night before on my way home frrom work. The motor sounds sweet still (normal valve train noise accepted) and the power is unchanged.

Perhaps you shed some light as you've had a similar experience.

Many Thanks.

My 2010 does that but I think it is perfectly normal. It is only noticeable when accelerating quickly in the lower gears and only when going thru this narrow rpm range. It's not a problem, just a characteristic of the motor; most engines have a certain rpm they go through where there is some vibration depending on load. Gives a feeling of power, but this is generally a very smooth motor. - Wayne
