Help needed for crash bars for striple r

So, I am quite new to this forum and would like to ask a (dumb?) question. I would like to put engine protection bars on my new '10 Street Triple R but the only ones that I can find on-line from an American supplier are SW-Motech bars made by a German co. for the Street Triple. The SW-Motech web site does not list the bars in their on-line catalogue under Street Triple R, just the regular model.

My questions are: Has anyone put these bars on a Street Triple R, and if so, do they fit without any modifications, and finally, are they worth the money?

I have crash bars on my R1200RT and am VERY THANKFUL for that!

considering the street triple r just has difference forks/brakes/rear shock than the non r. im sure the sw-motech will fit.

The wife and I both have the SW Motech bars on our Streeters. Quite beefy, although they do give off a "land rover" appearance. Haven't dropped either bike yet with them installed so can't comment on their actual strength. I would think they'd fit an R but maybe a call to the dealer would be the best bet.

Here are a few I had on hand of my Striple. The rear shot gives you somewhat an idea on the width of the bars.

I can snap more if you want?

Those turn signals are pretty resilient to a lot of abuse do to their flexible mount. Wife's bike has clutch/alternator/axle sliders installed as well as the bars. Her bike used to have the Givi chrome crash bars installed and got knocked over in a parking lot by an old lady in a Crown Vic. The Givi's saved a lot of damage to the upper engine area but would touch the right knee while riding. I never got around to the sliders on mine.

They are such a blast to ride!

I think that those bars look great on the Street Triple. I have ordered them from Twisted Throttle and will mount them on my matte black R bike (hopefully without difficulty). When done I, too, will post a few pics. My experience on the R1200RT is that they SHOULD be worth every penny.

This bike is an awful lot of fun to ride!

those are the ones from twistedthrottle right? i read that to install those you need to enlarge the hole on the bike. was it difficult to do? how did you do it?

thanks.

I don't know, had the dealer do it. You do have to watch the lower brace near the exhaust header for clearance. Both of our Striples have Arrow 3-1 systems. I had to grind this brace on both to prevent possible contact as things shift a tad bit while breaking in. Dont' need a hole in a pipe. Minor stuff.
