Handlebar help!

Just the other day I was coming in from a ride and was about 1/2 a mile from home when I found myself on a road under going major construction (see where this is going?) Long story short: debris, new concrete bridge, brakes = lowside. After 6 years with out incident it finally happened. I'm a bit angry about the situation and how I feel I should have known better but alas these things happen. I've never purchased a brand new bike before I bought my 09 striple r and it hurts to see such a beatiiful bike go down.

The damage is minimal and mostly cosmetic but I ended up bending my handlebars inward toward the tank in an awkward position. I need to order some replacement handlebars but I'm not sure whether i should purchase OEM replacement or aftermarket. There's no dealership close by so I'll likely be orderinging online. I like the idea of getting an aftermarket set from renthal or the like to maybe get a more aggressive position but im not really sure... Anyone have any experience with the aftermarket? Other than 29" wide I don't have any other dimensions which makes things more difficult for me as well. HELP!!!

Are the handlebars really bent or are they just twisted in relation to the triple T?

Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing. But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

No they're definitely bent. I was able to ride home and instead of my knuckles facing straight while holding the bars they were pointing out to the side. I removed the bars and measured 24" from end to end... I did notice the risers a bit twerked but I read I could losen them up and reposition them.

Just got myself some Rizoma tapered bars in black from PJsparts, looks a lot better than the silver Maguras. They are slightly different shape,

1. lower at the clamps, then sweeps up at slightly more angle
2. slightly more sweep back towards the rider
3. about 10mm longer at the ends

also hollow ends means you have a greater choice of bar ends, went with Rizoma ones, great quality can't fault them.

Fitting them this weekend, will post my thoughts & pics.

Rizoma handle bar and bar ends installed on stock risers. Set the grips further inwards so that the bar ends mirrors had space to clamp on. Also using Driven gel grips, which are much grippier and softer than the stock ones - great cheap upgrade.

First impressions - handlebars sweep upwards and back towards the rider more, ending up being higher than the stock handlebars at the tips. I found the position no less comfortable or uncomfortable than the stock bars - maybe more time on the bike will tell. But is noticeable is that the mini vibes I got on the stock bars have been reduced, this is probably more to do with the barends and new grips.
