How does Striple compare against Speed Four ?

I've a 2005 600 Speed Four and I'm seriously considering a 675 Street Triple.

I like the S4s excellent handing and brakes . Performance is pretty good , though it needs revs to get the best from it , and gets a bit hot around town.

What do you guys reckon ?
How does the handling , braking , performance etc of the Street Triple compare ?

I hope the S4 doesn't hear me say this, but at the end of the day the Street Triple (at least the R, I've never ridden a standard one) is just a better motorcycle. 7-8 years of development and advancement have a way of doing that.

I take nothing away from the Speed Four, I still have mine, and can't imagine letting it go, quirks and all. That being said the 675 motor is more flexible, the fueling better, and it's lighter. The damping on the R is a bit harsher than the S4 and the riding position is more relaxed with the handlebar.

Thanks for reply

The fact that you've kept your S4 says something - they are damn fine machines . . . . . .

. . . but more of all the good traits

Mmmmmm . I want a Striple !!!

Talking GO TEST RIDE a Street Triple

Best advice is .... GO TEST RIDE a Street Triple NOW :-)

Why?....
My other half had a Speed Four for 3 years (with LSL riser kit) ,
& really liked it,
racked up lots of miles accross Northern, Southern, Western & Eastern Europe, & the UK, both solo & 2 up.
Only glitch was the occasional snatchyness at lo revs/slow town work, as well as the original lo bars....

After a full days test ride in Aug 07, she came back beaming...
Shes by no means a slow rider, but the 675 Street Triple (ST3) made her even smoother & quicker in most areas,
& yes..... the S4 is a fine handling bike with great brakes, but the 675 ST3 is even better !
That 675 ST3 Engine is also a peach & also has lots mo grunt & "3 cyl anchor like" engine braking :-)

After the test ride, we went touring in Scotland (on S4 & ST) & my other half spent most of the week slagging off her S4, surprising really as she'd previously loved the S4 but the ST3 is just sooooo much better !
Hence I ordered her a Street as soon as we got back.

By the way.. as a "progressive" rider..
I find I can ride the ST3 quicker on the road than my 955i S3, as the ST3 is easier to ride, at ANY speed than either the S4 or S3 ..... :-)
I can honestly say...I very nearly ordered TWO Street Triples...!

I now usually find my other half has her ST3 sat no more than a few yards from my rear numberplate,
at any speed following me on my ST or S3!
