New Battery

Had to buy a new battery last night. Came out of work and bike tried to start, but not enough umph. Called my dealer and had them put a bat on charge. Wife swung by and got me there just before closing.

Bike is 20 mos old w/ 20k. Rides under 20+ miles long don't exist f/ me.

I ALWAYS keep her on a Battery Tender brand tender when not in use and tender lights indicate all is functioning well. Head lights remain just as bright at idle as when bike is rev'd.

The charging systems in Triumphs are marginal at best. They use shunt-type regulator/rectifiers that put out around 13.5 volts in ideal conditions. If your battery is not up to snuff, it will not survive. All that said, I would pursue warranty replacement with your dealer. That battery should've lasted longer.

Just recently replaced my battery too. Put eighteen thousand miles on the battery in fifteen months. Near the end I tried starting the bike and heard the starter solenoid click but no engine turn. Talked to a guy at the shop and he said it might have been the solenoid. Then I talked to someone else who said the battery might be dead because if the solenoid is clicking it's probably working but there isn't enough power to turn the starter. Had the battery diagnosed and come to find out the battery had zero life in it and was barely charging. Only seventy bucks for a brand new one at the dealership.

I had my Striple for less then 1 year and 12,000 miles. The battery died slowly over time. Eventually it would not start. After seeing a new battery costs $100+ I decided to take action. That cap on top of the battery that said "do not remove", well I removed it. I found that the fluid inside was less than half full! I filled it with water, charged it and it lasted another two months until I wrecked the bike.
