Sad, wrecked 2009 Street Triple "R"(I think).

Local to me...$1800. Frontal damage and dented (perhaps fixable) tank. Price seem about right? I need another winter project.

Run away...or give it a whirl?

Depends. How much are you willing to put into fixing it up?

It's hard to guess at this point what all it might need. I'm sure it would be a very interesting project in any case, but as someone who's had to pinch pennies very seriously several times after sports car restoration projects, I can tell you it boils down to this: how deep are your pockets if you should discover damage that's not visible?

Well let me answer the easy question. It is an R version of a Street Triple.

Now on to the hard part. The dent in the tank looks like it might be to big to fix. The missing instrument cluster is going to put a dent in the pocket book. The headlights and mounting bracket might not be cheap either. Considering that dented tank and front end damage who knows what little things you might find.

I guess the upside would be if you decided to get it and find that it may be to much to repair you could go and part out the suspension and brake parts that people are searching for. At that price it may get you to break even or come out ahead. Even the engine could worth something for a racer.

Glad its not my call. Your right though it might make a good winter project.

Aye, there's the rub. I'd do the painting and perhaps take a stab at the tank (I've always wanted a stud puller).

I'm going to swing Friday and take a look at the bike, who knows it's probably already sold.

I've had a tank repaired before (dents pulled w/a stud puller) with similar damage, not quite as bad as this one.

I've never even rode a Street Triple, just a Speed triple, once upon a time, but I really, like the concept.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, and I'll report back after seeing the bike in person tomorrow.

Checked on parts via bikebandit (used 2008 Street Triple as a go-by, so I'm not sure how accurate it's going to be)

$553.24 for all of the headlight parts and pieces
$1100 + for the instrument assembly (A Veypor would seem to be a more economical choice)

sad to see, but could make for a good project, you can find tanks on most auction sites too

I'd be worried about those forks being tweaked. In the 3rd pic it looks as though they may in fact be, or the handlebars at least.

The exhausts are tweaked as well. In the 2nd pic, the right one is visibly lower than the left one. Might be the rearframe as well judging by how the seat is sitting in the 1st pic.

Then add all the small misc parts that obviously get damaged in such falls, such as the clutch lever, brake pedal, etc..

Check for frame damage or scratches. Even with the lightest scratch on the frame, you may not be able to plate that bike as it may be declared unstreetable and "parts only"...

If it's been declared like I said, then it's only good for parts or a trackbike... but if not, it may be a worthwhile investment at that price.

Small update (if anyone is watching).

I just called the yard the bike does have fork damage. Doesn't run (needs the instrument panel?) on it's own, but they have got it to run on carb cleaner.

I've still not made it over to take a look at it, hopefully this afternoon.

Yosso, it's your choice, but that's starting to sound to me more like a source of salvage parts than a project.

It's true, the bike will not run without the instrument cluster. The ECU and the instruments must "talk" to each other electronically for it to operate. Could add up to $$$$$$

(Red-line: "tweaked," which we know down here as meaning "adjusted slightly"...is that Canadian slang for damaged?)
