Just Say Maybe...
I've restored two earlier messages in a thread about the 2010 Street Triple and R, in what I consider a reasonable hope that we are now allowed to discuss the matter freely.
What happened was that people were posting stuff they found on the Internet--information Triumph still had under embargo, but which (through lack of sufficient attention by Triumph's Web developers) was already plainly visible to people searching for tidbits about the latest models, as they will naturally do.
It caused quite a bit of consternation when one particular surprise was spoiled by being posted prematurely in one of our other forums! (Later Update: That's an extreme intentional understatement, BTW. Truth is, stuff was hitting the fan left and right around here via e-mail nastygrams from Newnan, GA!!!) The operators of this site had no way to know that what our members were posting was privileged information, of course, because we weren't in on the fact there was any big secret to begin with. But it's certainly in our interests to cooperate with Triumph on protecting proprietary information, so that's what our administrators did.
That resulted in a classic Catch 22 situation: Within this forum, I couldn't instruct you specifically not to post links to or quotes from brand new pages at Triumph's site, without thereby spilling the beans that such things existed. So, I simply asked you not to post them from any Web site, until it ceased to be such a sensitive matter. Now you know what all the mystery was about.
Before I go on, thank you all for your excellent cooperation in this matter! I often brag to the other moderators what a great bunch we have in this group, and you really proved it once again.
In reality, the cat was thoroughly out of the bag before anyone at Triumph or here ever realized what was going on. We just happened to be the most visible site for them to notice! In actuality, word of the new Rocket Roadster--the big surprise I alluded to--had already spread to every motorcycle website in the known Universe, and probably beyond, so they finally released us from the embargo. I have to trust that includes the Striples as well, especially since there don't appear to be any big surprises in store for us this year anyway.
Therefore, with the usual caveat about "specifications are subject to change without notice," and a reminder that the new 2010 pages are not yet complete in some respects, I can now say seek and you shall find all you wanted to know...and maybe more.
