rain=no start?

Got an 09' striple and it got rained on which took out the electronic ignition. I was able to pop start it but should this really be happening on brand new Triumph?
My first Triumph so I dont know if this is normal or something needs to be looked at.
What do you think?

My bike got drenched once with no covers or anything of the sort. Exposed electronics and everything it was 120+ minutes of straight downpour and nothing was wrong with mine.

:/

I ride in the rain a lot including having to stop f/ lights and rush hour traffic, etc. Wetness has not been a problem f/ me.

I'm not a mechanic.

That said, it's unlikely the ignition system is impaired from the rain. If anything you might have a short from the rain water in your starter button or kill switch.

When you get ready to start the bike do you hear the fuel system start up when you turn the key? When you press the starter button do you hear a click or nothing at all?

I can't tell you how many time's my bike has been rained on and it starts like the beast that it is. The times it had problems turning or starting were because my battery had no life in it.

Good analysis, Joe. If the bike can be started by any means other than the starter motor, then the electronic ignition is working. It won't fire otherwise. I would be suspicious of the switches too.

Whichever switch it is wouldn't be shorted, though, or you would blow a fuse and/or have sparks. But rainwater--which is not particularly conductive--getting between the contacts could prevent making a good enough connection to complete the circuit. (An open circuit, in other words, rather than a short.)
