Dead Bike - Charged Battery
Hello all -- relatively new Triumph owner. Actually, I owned a Bonnie a few years back and posted on this board a few times, so I guess I am a returning owner. In any case, I bought 09 Street Triple R a few months ago and was enjoying it immensely. Unfortunately, then I came nose to nose with a Honda Accord as a result of a blind parking lot entrance. Luckily, the bike stopped on a dime (for which the Honda driver later congratulated me). Unfortunately, I didn't. Anyway, the bike fell on its left side with my leg cushioning its impact nicely (ouch). The only visible damage is 1) snapped clutch lever, (2) the left bar end appears to have been pulled out, or the hand grip pushed in, but the wires going in and coming out of the left grip look pristine, and (3) mild abrasions to the mirror and back engine paint.
I left the bike to sit for a week while I contemplated how stupid and avoidable the entire incident was and to let the substantial swelling in my foot subside (still waiting). When I finally went to start the bike up again -- nada. No power was getting to the tach. I didn't check to see if the headlight was getting juice, but I doubt it. I took the battery to Autozone and they said it was low and charged it for 40 minutes. I reinstalled it, but still no life. Nothing.
Unfortunately, the nearest Triumph dealer is 90 minutes away, so unless I want to pay $$$$$ to have it towed or get a heck of a lot of exercise pushing it the whole way there, I thought I'd ask you all for some advice. Loose connection someplace? Fuse? Leaked its magical electron pixie dust? (I should also disclose that combustion and camshafts make sense to me. Invisible electrons coursing through tiny wires and resistors do not. So no, I don't even have even the most basic electrical tools on hand. Sorry!)
Thanks!
