Standard Striple Fork Springs?

I searched around, but didn't find the answer. I'm considering having my forks resprung for my 200 pounds, but my local shop couldn't find a Race Tech spring for the standard striple... they did see one listed for the R. Do the standard and the R use the same spring?

I'm also interested in any thoughts on this process... I think revalving is out with these lame forks, so how much better can I make them by respringing alone?

thanks...

Call RaceTech they have all the information and I'm sure can help you. I'm sure they have a valving kit and springs for the standard STriple even if it's not listed.

My understanding after having my forks sorted by Maxton in the UK.

The forks are underdamped for low speed damping, so they compress too readily when taking corners and braking. They have too much high speed damping which means they do not absorb road shocks very well which makes the ride quality very harsh.

The standard spring is too soft for the average rider, putting in a stronger spring will help with the control of the forks when braking and cornering but will make the harsh ride even worse.

The standard ST comes with peened over cartridges which (Maxton say) are not worth trying to modify because they have to be virtually destroyed to get at the innards. It's easier to just strip the internals and replace them. If you want to throw bick bucks at it you can get a complete gas sprung internal gubbins that will work brilliantly on road or track, the alternative is to get a slightly lower tech conventional replacement from a company like Maxton (they dont export to the USA unfortunately).

Thanks guys - Thirdway, that's the stuff I need to know... though it's too bad it has to be such an expensive ordeal to get it sorted. Yeah I've read a lot about Maxton... wish I had access to them.

Maybe I'll compromise on the spring to avoid amplifying the dampening issue. People say the striple is sprung reasonably for 140-150 pound riders... I'm 200 - maybe I'll spring it for a 185-190 pound rider. I dunno...

Well if you were willing to spend the money I would go ahead and pick up a used pair of either Daytona forks or I think Kawasaki ZX6 forks. I would have to check on the Kawasaki part but I'm pretty sure I read here somewhere that they are an exact fit.
