Disconnecting lights for track days.

What is the best solution to disconnect the head lights when going to the track. I tried taking out the fuse, but then the bike does not start. So I tried unplugging the lights behind the top of the radiator but plugging back is extremely hard, as the part that is in the bike is short and re-connecting has to be done in the minuscule space behind the radiator and under the tank. So I finally decided to take out the bulbs, which is less of a pain. Any ideas?

Well, you have already found the most straightforward solution. There isn't anything easier that I can see, unless you want to cut into your wiring harness to add a switch.

Has anyone been able to pull the plugs out a little more so that they are easier to re-connect? I raised the tank to see how the wires are fished through but was not able to see the wire. Does anybody know how the wires are routed under the bike?

There isn't any extra wire you couldn't pull them out enough to make any advantage.

You could maybe disconnect the power feed to the headlights at the relay, leaving the starter circuits intact. I don't know how difficult it is to access the relay however.

All the relays are under the tank next to the fuses.

That's the catch. "The relay" is the starter relay. To get the lighting circuit loose from the relay socket and reconnect it later is going to be harder than taking out the bulbs.

Do you have a picture of where under the tank you disconnected the lights?
