The slash at the end is significant

It will simply keep them from DRIVING it away. Two reasonably fit guys can lift a Street Triple into a truck in under a few minutes and be GONE.

The best theft deterrent: Locked Garage.

Bikes get stolen DAILY here in Houston. A couple of friends have had some heavy bikes (Busa's/R1's) lifted in the time it took them to get dinner/lunch; durring work.

My experience exactly. Most bikes are stolen without the wheels ever rolling. Simply lift and put in a truck or moving van.

Also even a small pair of bolt cutters could cut through the aluminum brake lever with ease. Thus disabling that device.

On the flip-side, the average bike theft is some dumbazz punk just wanting a joy ride and to enjoy a squid-like moment in life, and will be unprepared to deal with any anti-theft deterrant. Anything you can do to slow the guy down increases your odds of keeping the bike.
I'd like to see a spreadsheet of bike brands stolen. I bet the Striple is not too high on the list - as cool as it is, it just isn't well known in the boy-racer crowd.

According to Lojack....

Quote:
A bike is stolen every 7.5 minutes*. While in some incidents of motorcycle theft, bikes are stolen for personal use or a quick joyride, most theft is committed by professional thieves looking to cash in on a lucrative business opportunity.

99.99999% of anti theft devices will only keep away the casual thief. If you don't know any reposessors, you should make friends with one and you'll find out how easy it is to bypass pretty much everything.

Lojack can be good, but it relies on 'security through obscurity' (location of device) which isn't proper security at all.

Locked garage, alarm with pager and a baseball bat... these can help ;-). I've seen the lengths people go through locking their bikes up in places like San Francisco, and think... damn what a pain!

At home, like others have said, locked personal garage.
