manual quick shift

hello.

Today was my second day on the roads I got my license yesterday...

First of all, the street triple is the best bike ever. Loads of fun and power and still easy to ride for a beginner like me.

So today I discoverd how to manually quickshift. I've read about it and when i tried it wasn't that complicated to do, just put a little pressure and then release the throttle for a millisecond, great fun

now... is this in some way bad for the engine or gearing?

I never do it on 1st-2nd changes...but at full throttle runs i've been known to do it from 2nd on up...

It's probably not good on the tranny but it's not a daily or even weekly thing for me to do.

It's normally referred to as a power shift (at least that's what I've heard it called more often than not) because you are still under power when shifting.

Many people feel that it's better for the transmission, when executed correctly. I'm not sure about that myself, I generally use the clutch although I do power shift as well.

If you search for power shifting and motorcycles you'll likely find tons of threads on the subject on many sport bike forums including justification for it being 'better' for the trans. I'd recommend reading up and educating yourself on the issue. .then decide for yourself. If you really like doing it you can get a switch that momentarily cuts ignition power when you upshift, or an air shifter (which does that and shifts for you) as well as other geegaws for assisting. Generally only used on drag bikes, but there isn't any reason you couldn't bracket race with a triple..

To get it to work on my bike i've got to be up in the RPMs (usually at red-line when I do it). Then I just hardly let off the gas (just taking it from 100% to 99%) just long enough to click the next gear (no clutch) and them I'm right back on the gas. Looking at how little clutch movement it takes to release it's probably no faster when powershifting VS using the clutch.

strange.

I can do it on my bike easly at just 5k

but as you say it's probably no faster then using the clutch.

I can do it pretty low too...I just usually do it in the upper range. If I'm not acting an ass I'm probably using the clutch.
