New bike Issues

Hey all! So I just picked up my new speed triple r on sat and everything was perfect coming home and even the short ride on Sunday but when I went to start her upthis morning I got nothing! Lights come on, I can hear internals moving and humming, but when I push the satrter it clicks once and that's it! The bike is in neutral, kick stand up, clutch pulled in but still nothing!

I called the dealer and they told me perhaps I left the parking lights on a d discharged the battery but I doubt it... Even if I did wouldn't the headlights be dim? Would only 2 days without riding be enough to drain a new battery? They said if the electrical system determines the battery is too low everything can still light up but the starter won't engage.

The bike has 80 miles on it and the only thing I did was take apart the ugly rear fender to see about installing a tail tidy but I put it back together ( I didn't even unplug any cables)

What should I be looking for? A fuse? Charge the battery?

Yes, check fuses and charge the battery as a precaution, but I doubt that's it. One thing to check: when the bike is in neutral, is the Neutral light definitely lit? If all those things are OK, don't try to mess with it further yourself--get it back to the dealer and get it checked out under warranty.

With 80 miles on it I would sure take it back to the dealer.

Got to be careful about the stearing lock. The very last lock position leaves the parking lights on and if it's daytime it's hard to see that you did it. Trust me; i've done it before.

check the battery's voltage....try putting it on a battery tender overnight. I seem to remember some stories of batteries not being fully charged by dealer. maybe your short ride was not enough to recharge?

It could be your regulator/rectifier. The dealer may have charged the battery before delivery and as soon as the initial charge drained, that was it. Be sure to have the dealer check your charging system. Do not let them simply charge the battery and send you on your way.

When I had my bike for 3 weeks same thing happened to me. I took the seat off and the battery connections felt tight. It started with the seat off, I put the seat on, no juice.

After repeating that and looking where it was being pinched for 10 minutes I finally tightened the battery connection and it actually turned a little. After that no problem.

If I had tightened instead of wiggling the first time I would have saved 10 minutes of aggravation.

Hope that's all it is.

Alright so after a night of charging the battery the bike started right up no problem! So I took it out for an afternoon ride and about 80 miles later approaching a stop sign the bike just quit on me! no lights no nothing!

Checked the battery again realized the negative terminal was loose. The dealer was real cool and swapped the battery out for a new one (the original was completely drained) and all the connections were tightened up and the charging system was checked and is working fine.

Hopefully thats the end of this issue. I was already thinking the worst and was glad to find the loose cable!

Unless you ride some distance every day or so, the OEM battery on the Daytona 675 and Striple is notoriously undersized. Save yourself some future grief and install a battery tender jr and just plug it in every day when you are done riding. This will greatly extend the battery life as well as the constant trickle charging will help prevent the battery from sulfation. I think that's a word?
