Stalling! need help

Hi all,

My 09Street triple have a problem, it keep stalling whenever I turn down the throttle suddenly or holding the clutch. I noticed the torque is down to 5000rpm or even below 5000. This only happen when the bike is in gear. When its in standby, it's ok.

All of my friends who own the street triple in Vietnam seems to have the same problem (we have like 10 bikes including some R). We don't have an authorized dearler shop in Vietnam. My bike was bought in CA, USA. I've had read the manual book and believe I can not tune the throttle level manually.

Please help if some of you have the same problem and have been fixed. Can I buy the computer chip for Street triple and tune up by my self?

Look forward to hearing from you all.
Thanks in advance.

ten bikes doing the same thing, are you all using the same fuel station, how's the oil, any mods to them?

I would be looking hard at the fuel that's going in them. At speed there might be enough flow/pressue to not notice the problem but at idle or closed throttle speeds the injectors might be feeling the clogs-dirty/watery fuel. I would possibly check the injectors and the fuel filter. I would probably also clear out the tank and then make sure you're getting good fuel.

Definitely sounds like a fuel pressure or quality problem. Most fuel injection systems are designed so that when you close the throttle completely it will keep the injectors shut (no fuel) until the RPM drops below a preset limit typically around 1500-2000rpms. If your fuel pressure is insufficient due to a clogged filter or if you are getting bad fuel it may die because the it's not generating proper combustion quick enough to prevent it from dying.

It would also be good to check your air filters but since it's affecting all your bikes it's more likely to be caused by a common influence such as fuel.

Hi guys,

Thanks a lot. It make sense now since all petrol in Vietnam is A92 and A95 (equal ron90) but the quality of petrol is definitely not good. I will bring my bike to a local mechanic today to clean the air filter and fuel injectors. Hope it will solve the problem.

Does anyone know about Tuneboy set for mapping our bike? We need some program that we can adjust our bikes (triumph ST). bringing the Triumph's mechanic from Australia or anywhere else near Vietnam seems impossible.

Once again, thanks a ton.

Tuan

I believe others here meant to get your FUEL filter cleaned out. Your air filter would not be effected by poor fuel quality. While you are at it, I'd get the tank drained, fuel lines flushed, fuel filter cleaned/replaced, and injectors cleaned.

Why do you need to adjust your fuel maps on your bikes?

He wasn't talking about the fuel maps, he meant the throttle adjustment. Either way, I don't think that this is what his problem is considering many other bikes are having the same problem in his area. Sounds like poor fuel quality and some clogged lines.

Since when do you need Tuneboy to adjust the throttle? The question was...

...so I think we can all be forgiven for thinking Tuan was talking about fuel maps.

Hi guys,

I appreciated your comments trying to help me and other Street Triple here in Vietnam.

Brought my bike to a local mechanic, get the air filter cleaned, but he didn't know how to take the fuel injectors out to clean. I did empty the fuel tank and replace it with better fuel (still A95), but the problem is still remain.

I noticed at idle, the rev is at around 800 to 1000rpm and no stalling. When the bike is in gear (no matter what gear) and I hold the clutch, the rev immediately down to 500rpm or even below and stalled.

I bought my bike from California, some riders say its because of the California emission standard not match with Vietnam riding condition?? I don't think so anyway.

The question:
Does anyone know what cause that problem? Or it definitely from a clogged injectors?
Is there any way that we can adjust the throttle level manually? I need to bring it up a little bit.

No Street triple here had a service check after 1000 miles yet. We only did change the oil and oil filter.

With thanks,
Tuan
