Street Trip R vs BMW F800ST
I know these are two different styles of bike: naked vs tourer. I have owned a Hinkley Bonneville & currently ride the BMW F800ST. The BMW is a fine machine but is not very exciting. I test drove the non-R Street Triple with Arrow exhaust & had a blast. May be too much fun.
Since I onlt have the $ and the space for one bike, I'm thinking of selling the F800ST for an orange R if I canb find one.
Anyone have experience with both thes bikes?
Thanks,
MaxH

If you test rode the Streety than you know that the F800ST can not compete (performance wise) to the Streety. That's not even up for debate. However, as you own a F800ST, you know the BMW is more versatile. They are oranges to apples. You'll have to decide whether you want a "road ripper", or a "do all" bike. There really is no winner or loser here as the two are in completely different segments and each bike has completely different virtues.

My dad has got a BMWF800S and I've ridden that a couple of times and for me the biggest difference was the seat height of the beemer, it's very tall compared to the street as I was right on tip toes and i can touch the floor easy on the street. Acceleration wise the Street has got the beemer definately beaten. I did find the BMW very smooth, probably due to the belt drive. The most annoying thing on the bike was the stupid indicators 3 buttons when one is all you need!.Heated grips were nice though as was ABS. Overall the Street is a more exciting bike, it's more likely dad asking for a go on my bike than the other way round.

Heated grips are a cheap and easy add on ($30). As for ABS on a motorcycle I'm going down that road but it is a personal choice on whether it's important or not to you.
I really don't see a comparison between the two bikes. Ones about action and the others about comfort.

Easy answer really..
Are you dead, or alive??
how would you rather feel? I got heated grips, and some other bits and bobs - and I commute in London, in all weathers.
Most entertaining commute I have ever had. Why do I need a bmw? They are heavy, slow, thirsty, small tanked, and... frankly a bit pants.
hey, just my opinion..

Watch out for the F800ST!
It's the first step on the slippery slope to Old Fart-dom.
The Street Triple (R or not) is a hooligan bike.
As an over 60 year old, I had to have both the Striple, and a "proper" Old Fart's BMW.

The 850R is not a proper old farts bike. You would have to have an RT or LT for that.
