Rad protector

I saw this on the web. Anyone have this installed on their bikes? Seems expensive. Anyone have pics?

Hey X,

I've had my RS running up and down the autobahn here in Germany for a while, and I can't imagine ever wanting, needing, or seeing one of these things on any bike. For that reason, I would probably warn against putting this on the bike, since all that it looks like it's going to do is add complexity to an already very well engineered bike, and really piss you off when it comes time to do any sort of maintenance, which might requires its removal.

There are quite a few members running one version or another of radiator protection, myself included. I have yet to read of anyone having a problem performing maintenance due to them being installed.

Hey OnD,

Seems like you've taken offense to my comment.

Hey X,

I guess that there's something out there for anyone willing to spend their money on it. As for me, and all of the folks that I know that ride everything from Harleys to Aprilias and back again, I've never heard of this sort of a thing (guess that I'm just not well versed enough). But I guess that it all comes down to where you ride and whether or not you might think that this sort of thing might be necessary.

Good luck on your decision.

Takes more than that to offend me. I've been pre-conditioned by snarky sprint riding experts.

All I was doing was stating what I know about rad covers. Hope you were not offended.

Radguard

RadGuard is an Australian brand and I have one on my '04 Sprint ST.

They are more expensive than the US made "Mikes Grilles" because they are a lot stronger and better made.

A quick search will reveal quite a lot of threads about this on both the 955 and 1050 range of Sprints

Mikes Grilles have a tiny edge frame and are zip tied to the bike.

RadGuard has a heavy duty 20mm wide frame and bolts onto your bike using existing holes.

Here is mine on my '04 955

Hey OnD,

Nah, took no offense at all. Like I said, I'm not the most well versed on this sort of thing. Heck, I've only just heard about this sort of a thing a little over an hour ago, when I first read this post. LOL

Seems like an interesting idea though. But why not just extend the mud flap? Seems like it would provide the same benefit, and be much easier to install.

This is my OnD rad guard. One of these days I'll be able to afford store bought stuff.

I still need to finish the job and make one for the oil cooler.
