New RS owner, wanted belly pan..
Hi all. Well, the RS was finally delivered. Dunno if you saw my last message, but I am in Iraq right now, and my buddy wanted to sell me his 2000 RS. He hasnt been able to ride for 2 years, so the bike has been sitting, and he just wanted it gone. Its nice and clean and cant wait to get out of this hell-hole and back home so I can ride it.
Anyways, my wife is picking it up for me tomorrow...
So I want a belly pan for it. And maybe an exhasut. But you cant search "RS" on here because it is to short.
No.1 - Can you still order teh belly pans or am I stuck with finding one on Ebay? Does anybody have one the want to sell me??
No 2 - Any exhaust suggestions. I saw some posts that said the programming is a little difficult after jetting or putting pipes on. Any recommendations or threads I should read??
Thanks All
The Captain...

Welcome aboard
Hi and welcome to our Sprint forum Xterrable
Glad you are able to get some log on time while you are over there. I am glad I am not, over there that is.
Our search engine isn't the most user friendly one in the world I agree.
If you try 2000 Sprint RS you "might" get better hits, maybe.
The exhaust system question I can answer for you.
YES you can get after Market exhausts for these bikes and yes you will need a dealer to upload an "off road tune" for you once it is fitted.
The reason is all these bikes are factory made to run very lean and with the off road can it will be even more lean. The off road tune will also even out a flat spot in the stock tune at around 3000rpm.
The following exhausts are available;
Triumph Stainless steel off road can
Triumph Carbon Fibre off road can
Trident exhausts aluminium, CF or SS (Made in England)
Two Brothers (USA)
Staintune (Australia)
There are several others that I just can't remember at the minute.
Steventhechef is one of our resident RS owners who knows some of the RS particular facts.
Anyhow welcome and when you can have a read of our sticky for new members as I ask every noob to please read it.
Stay safe and get your butt home to ride that RS, you will love it.
cheers,
DaveM

Thanks, I cant wait to get home. I go on leave in Feb-March, so I plan a trip around the neighborhood, as long as there is no snow on the ground..
Thanks for the update. Im somewhat new to bikes. Only have abou 2000 miles behind the bars, but I quickly outgrew my last bike. So firgive me if mt questions are typical "noob" stuff.
Will a can and return suffice? Or will I need new jetting? Is there one basic "offroad tune" or is there different tunes for different pipes?
Since the bike has been sitting for 2 years, any other things I should change on it before I ride it? My friend is going to store it for me over the winter and is very good with bikes, so he is gonna do all the fluid changes and maint. things..
Any thoughts on where to look for a Belly Pan?

Welcome to an excellent Bike
Hope you get home and put some miles on it soon. It must be feeling pretty neglected, so give it a good check over... Oil, water, tyre condition etc.
As to the fuelling. These bikes are injected, not carbs, so no re-jetting needed. The new fuel map that a dealer can install will richen the mix in the right areas for you. It's as simple as bolt on the new end can, pop to dealer, fork over some cash and watch while they use the GameBoy to download the offroad map (only one map whatever your can) into the ecu. Ride away with big grin.
As to the search, I think Dave is being overly kind towards it. I just spent 10 minutes trying to get it to search in a way that brought up RS responses... no joy. Even if you put RS in a longer string like "Sprint RS Belly pan" it still spits it out. made even more frustating by the authentication feature that has now appeared.
So please Dave, have a go at searching for an RS belly pan thread, and perhaps if you find it as frustrating as I did, you can have a word with the site owners and get the "2 character rule" adapted to allow things like RS and ST!!
In Hope,
Rexx

Thanks Guys. I get so frustrated doing searches for RS specific stuff.. I've been looking on ebay for a few months, and only saw 1 belly pan. But I thought it was to much...
I think the wife is going to get me a Pipe for X-mas..
The bike has new tires and a new battery. Going to change all the fluids and shock fluid. Needs paint though. Its orange, but my friend put gren flames on te front of it. Not a fan of the green/orange, so the wife wants it painted. Dunno if I should stay factory or do a complete new color...
If I dont do the tune, will the bike run poorly? I am coming from a 500 Ninja, so I am not expecting to much. I dont ride fast, just want to enjoy the ride..

Ahh, plus I already ordered a Sky-King fender eliminator kit for it. Wish they made an undertail kit. I love the clean look..
I guess I'll do a chanin and sproken while the bike is down.
My friend is an amateur racer, so he wants to "borrow" it and make sure its running smooth enough.. LoL....

Use quotes in your search strings and you'll have better results. For example, this search string, "Sprint RS" "belly pan", will return posts with both those phrases in them, and the phrases don't have to be adjacent to each other (can be in different sentences).

Hey X,
Congrats on picking up the abandoned 2K RS. I'm sure that in no time, you'll be looking to a lot of the other things that other RS owners have (getting rid of the decals being one of those things... which some of us actually like).
So I went ahead pulled together a few links to help you in your quest to make your RS your own (not to mention empty said wallet! ).
So here's some of the stuff that I come across, along with some of the places that I've been known to frequent...
Parts:

Oh, and as for that friend that wants to borrow it... you might want to go out to British Customs and order a set of frame sliders to protect those plastics. Trust me when I tell you, you do not want to have to replace them. To says that they are expensive would be a great understatement. Check out Bike Bandit for the specifics. As for the chin spoiler (aka belly pan), I've seen a few out there, but the factory version seems to be the only one that really, really matches the bike on the aesthetic angle (the others seem to be just a little off, if you compare them). ...and you might want to look at a hugger for your rear tire to keep all of that road grime off of your shock (which is what I did, as well).
Oh, and you might want to do a search on "Chin spoiler" as well... but I still think that it would be easier to have one of your buds head down to the local Triumph dealer and order one. I found that was the easiest way to make sure that you get all of the necessary parts for a problem free install.

Hey X,
I forgot to mention one thing. Enjoy the RS... you'll love the sound when you take her past 5 grand and you hear that growl. It's kind of addictive...but that might change when you swap out the exhaust.

Welcome to the forum Xterrable. The 00-01 belly pans are a little different regarding cutouts than the 02-04's.
The are very hard to find - I am still looking for one under $3oo !! The OEM looks the best IMO
Good luck on the return to home. sage advice from rexx
