Installed a 17t front sprocket...
and the grin is back on my face!
I guess I'm a hooligan by nature, I just love nailing the throttle off the line. I love laying on the tank at the stop light, and when it turns green, seeing how fast I can hit the posted speed limit. I was able to get about 20-25 miles in and only had one un-intended front tire lift-off from terra-firma. I probably won't keep it on for cross country jaunts, but around town, it was more fun than a growed-up man should be allowed to have...
A tremendous bang-for-the-buck and besides, this is cheaper than pistons, cams and dyno time!

Sounds like fun. I bet the wheel could come up pretty darn easy though with a 17T. It could with the 18T.....

You guys still had 19T stock right? Mine was a 19/43 and was almost unmanageable in traffic. The 18T was on order as soon as I got to the shop on my first ride
Sounds like the 17T might be an order of magnitude more fun again!
Though maybe I'll try a 45T rear as an intermediate step...

What benefit does the 18T sprocket offer in traffic?

For me, it made it far easier to manage the starts and stops of city driving. It also drops the speed in gear at idle making it easier to roll ahead at low speed without slipping the clutch as much. Eliminated a lot of the surging/hitching you'll get in those situations. The TOR tune took care of much of the rest.
And, well, the fun factor is obvious

Did you have to take any links outs of the chain? I was thinking of doing the same thing. Thats why I put a Sigma bicycle speedo on her

Yep, 19t was stock. I believe 44t is stock for the rear sprocket, so one tooth up would barely be noticeable. I think I remember 3 teeth in back is equal to one tooth up front, others may chime in and verify or correct that info.
FWIW, it is an order of magnitude more fun! It felt great when I let it rip up the hill away from my subdivision. I've always had a habit of gearing my bikes short. My ZRX was 17/45 stock and I wound up with 16/47. My tendency is to roll on the throttle very smoothly and sometimes very quickly. I'm not a wheelie nut, I keep the front wheel on the ground 99.1% of the time. With the small front sprockets, you will get marginally faster chain wear due to the decreased radius. How much less? I only got 22,000 miles out of the chain on my 140hp ZRX, so I guess "less" is relative...

Nope, the chain adjusted to spec. I run my chains loose, with at least 1" of free play up on the stand, sometimes a little more. Once you get on the bike and add sag to the suspension, all that slack gets taken up...

I just looked it up, seems like you're even higher than me... I have a 43, looks like you >05 guys got stuck with a 42! At least according to these guys.

That could explain why my tune edit - tune constants never work out when I use a 44t rear sprocket!
Bike Bandit confirms your info... Here is their link:

I'm going to ride the 17/42 more, but I'm thinking 18/44 would be mighty fine, mighty fine indeed!
