White Smoke After Start Up

About two weeks ago I bought an 05 Sprint St with 2000 mile on it. Everything has been great until today. Haven't started bike in a few days and today I started it for a minute and noticed white smoke came out of the exhaust and continued for around 3 minutes. The bike is very low on fuel....could that have something to do with it?? This is my first Bike and I am pretty nervous!! - Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert but it seems to me water condensation may be the culprit. Has the bike been sitting a long time? Letting the bike warm up, changing the oil and maybe the filter and spark plugs could help. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck!

I changed the oil last week. And I have rode it about 300 miles in the last two weeks, but before that It had'nt been ridden much (2K in three years). Thanks for the quick reply!

mine does this at startup, I chalked it up to condensation. Like when a car first starts in the morning it will have a little smoke. Or on a col day. no big worry I wouldn't think.

If its cool outside it will be condensation burning off and not anything serious. If it goes away right after coming out of the tail and doesnt happen after start up then its fine. If the smoke lingers then you are burning something.

These bike produce a ton of condensation.

That is probably what it is. I am serious about the lingering. If the smoke is lingering and building up then you have an issue. If it is just blowing out the back and instantly dissappearing then you are fine.

..... not sure where you live zaqjen but sounds like Northern Hemisphere - summer time?

The Sprint has a big muffler which takes a while to warm up.Until then most of the water in the exhaust comes out as white condensation.

Blue or black smoke is a bigger concern.

How come only 2000 miles?

I live in the northern U.S. The "smoke" is white and vanishes two or three feet from the exhaust, and only lasts a few minutes, so it sounds like condensation. As far as the low miles, I bought the bike from a dealer who said the previous owner traded it for a BMW. I can only surmise that he was looking for something more comfortable. thanks for all the help guys.

I've taken the liberty of revising your choice of words.
