green oil ??

Went to do an oil change today, first time for me and the triumph since I purchased the bike a couple of months ago.
Out fo a quick spin to warm up the inners then off comes the drain plug and filter...the oil had a green colour to it?? anyone know if its usual, seems odd to me.

Thanks

Very concerning!

Green oil means there's possibly COOLANT in your oil.

What year and model is your Sprint?

I'm thinking BHG ( blown head gasket ) but others might fight me on my daignosis.

My suggestion is to take it in very soon.

That depends on what the oil looked likje when it was new.

All oil is not yellow in colour.

In the old days Duckams Q was a top oil for four stroke motorcycles and it was..................yep GREEN.

Check out what colour it was when you started before you panick.

Were all of those 4300 miles your miles? Or a previous owners?

4300 miles on a 2002! That's a very low mileage bike if that's true!

I'd still get it to my dealer asap, regardless of mileage or how it's been ridden.

OnD care to chime in here?

Think I will complete the oil change and then check in a day or two to see if its turned green. The coolant level is normal.
The bike is new to me, only ridden by myself a couple of hundred miles.

Think its safe to do the change and see?

Castrol GTX used to be green. I used to use a lot of it pre-oiling engine innards. I wonder if someone put that in?

If you had a blown HG you'd probably be seeing a lot of steam out the E-pipe.
You can look for oil residue in the coolant also. But coolant in the oil would be very and readily apparent.

Opinion

I think if the oil had coolant in it you would have a grayish foamy sort of goo?
If it looks and feels like oil,but green, than it prolly is.
Indy Moto GP anyone?

Okay, after, looking more closely the oil is definately a greenish colour..thing is, the coolant in the bike isnt green..its a brownish colour. So that possibly rules out coolant in the oil.

I went ahead and finished the oil change, tomorrow i'm buying new spark plugs and air filter to replace along with my coolant flush and refill.

Dolson - I haven't noticed steam or extra smoke coming from the exhaust.

Thanks for the quick replies
