Hello everyone,

Does anyone know how to tighten the mirrors on the 05-08 mirrors on the sprints? I am not talking about the base of the mirror but the swivel portion..is that adjustable? I notice mine has some unwanted movement that if I can tighten....then I can reduce the vibration of my mirrors.

Sorry I can't help.... but, I do remember some members here placing wheel weights behind (hidden) the mirror portion to help control vibration.

so there is no way to tighten the swivel portion of the mirrors? Thats odd

Ricster,

The mirror swivels on a post that goes into the lower support. The post has a spring over it to provide tension then a washer ontop after the washer a flat push nut is jammed on. The push nut provides the holding for the whole thing, you could remove it, tear it apart, which would involve cutting the wiring harnes and try hammering down on the push nut more. The nut has a natural stop built in to the post, as the post is made smaller at the end with the nut and has a larger diameter where the spring is. Now the push nut is usually not put on very far, T must have some spec for this but who knows, so the nut has room to be tightened. The problem with all of this is that the post is made out of really cheap pot metal and will easily brake. Or you could remove it all and thread the bottom of the post and then use a real nut and some locktite.

Ricster,
let me know if you come up with any ideas. Gary has it right. I pulled off the mirrors a few weekends ago and took them to a hardware store hoping that i might find the answer. I left them off the rest of the weekend and never had a good thought on what to do. (not surprising for me.) Now they're back on a vibrating away as usual.

I have the same problem with my 01. My dealer used some fine copper wire under the push nut. This works for a while. Then I got a couple of THIN washers & gently tapped them into the gap under the push nut at a couple of radially opposed points. This makes them rock solid but the washers do periodically shake loose or right out so need regular checks.Thin copper washers seem to work well too.
Good luck. Its one of the Sprints few failings.

My answer seems to be to replace the mirrors when they get really loose with the colored coded mirrors so then I get new mirrors for awhile. Or if Triumph comes out with an all new Sprint ST in te near future (2010) I wont have to worry about the mirrors

Hey Ricster,
I did this to my mirrors to help with the vibration.
I put some small wheel weights on the lower part of the actual glass mirror ( internally ).
I also cut some small strips of rubber (tyre inner tube) and forced them into the gap at the swivel point - the point where the mirror stem rotates.
This has eliminated nearly all vibration
