Anyone do there own oil changes?

Just did mine & put in the 3.2 liters wet fill. However my oil window does not show anything? I did fill the oil filter 1st before installing.

Any ideas? Should it not show about ½ way?

I have an '04 with a dipstick instead of a window, but...

My old Kawasaki had a sight glass, & it was nearly impossible to see the level when it was full. Low was at the bottom of the glass, full was at the top. Half a quart down was the easiest to see, as that put the oil level right in the middle. After I had gotten used to it, it became very easy to see whether I was looking at the blank window or at oil, but I really had a hard time telling the difference in the beginning.

Cheers, HTH,
-Kit

You're still low. Even with prefilling the filter you may be around 6/10 or 7/10 of a liter low. It should take close to 4 L total and I can't imagine the filter holds more than around 4~5 oz (apx 0.15L)

Try adding more in small increments, run the motor to circulate and recheck the level.

Don't take this wrong, but I've gotta ask; do you have the bike on the center stand or at least held level?

If she's on the side stand on these bikes it won't show anything in the window. I did a change recently and wound up over filling by half a quart because I wasn't waiting long enough for the oil to drain into the sump completely........ still working on that patience thing....

Neither

Neither. I was holding it from the right/brake side straight up.

I called my local Triumph dealer over the weekend and asked the service dept. They seem to think I am good.

My issue is why do you have a window if it does not serve any purpose. I agree I believe I am still low.

Question, those of you with sight windows. Are you half way or about ¼ from bottom?

Usually about half way with bike on level ground and on center stand. I am trying to remember how much oil I normally put in and it seems about 4 liters. Jeff

The window does serve a purpose. There's a 'low' mark and a 'high' mark. Obviously, it's supposed to fall within. I did an oil & filter change yesterday on my '00 and 1 gallon (3.79 litres) put it right on the high mark.

I'd be wary of any service dept that says it's ok if you don't see oil in the sight gauge with the motor off and the bike in an upright position.

You're probably not low by much but I still wouldn't ride without it showing within the min~max range. BTW- the pre 2002 motors hold around 1/2L more than the 2002+ 955 motors. Where did you get the 3.2L number?

Can't speak for the older Sprints but my 07 Ninja 650R was half a quart off from what the owners manual said. The sight glass doesn't lie.

I thought the older Sprints held more oil then the new ones. 3.2L is the wet fill for an 05+
