New (to me) Sprint ST 01 owner

Greetings all,

I took the plunge and made a deposit on a 2001 ST yesterday, I will pick it up next Sat. if all goes well. 10k original miles, stock bike. I just wanted to say hi and ask a question.

I realize that wind is all part of the fun, and if I wanted a total livingroom style setting I would go back to my wheeled lounge chair (Honda Goldwing with everything but a flatscreen TV).

I have read threads about aftermarket windscreens but the answers seem so varried, or maybe I am dense...lol. So...here goes. I am 6'3" tall, I would prefer a windscreen that dosn't direct the airflow directly into my helmet or chin. My chest is ok...over my head, great...just not up the chin. Should I stay with the stock screen or is there a better "smoother airflow" choice.

Thaks a bunch all.
M

PS, Pictures to follow

Stick with the stock screen and bars for awhile, get your body used to riding in the more sporting posistion before you start investing in new ergo hardware.

The stock screen should be fine at your height, assuming you are sitting the bike "properly" (not overly hunched or overly upright).

Just keep in mind if you change screen, bar, or seat height, all the equations change.

And welcome to the family. DaveM will be along shortly with an official welcome and some links to peruse, and be sure to use the Search function before asking future questions if you don't want to risk the wrath of Dolson or OldNDumb.

Good Sir Croak,

Thanks for the info. I was leaning toward that and its good to know that my inclinations were on the right path. Also thanks for the heads up regarding the the avoidance of wrath ;-) I had done some searching...but the answers were all over the range of possibilities, I apreciate the clarification.

Congratulations

Hi and welcome Mmagus.

Congrats on your new ride too.

I can't help with the screen issue I am afraid, I am 5'10" and the stock screen suits me very well on my '04 Sprint ST.

Anyway enjoy the forum.......................

If you get a chance please have a squizz at the sticky "Posting etiquette".

I like to remind every one every now and then and it has a humorous vid also.

cheers,
DaveM

I'm 195cm (about 6' 3" I think, I'm not really a historian) and the standard screen on my '99 put the airflow on the top of my shoulders. Body was well protected, but my head was pushed back at speed.

My '02 has a higher aftermarket double bubble that puts the airflow half-way up my helmet. Is only acrylic and has a few holes in it now from stonechips the '99 standard just laughs at. More comfortable, but more wind noise.

Have test ridden a bike with a high lift screen and it was horrible. Airstream went over my head at highway speed at the cost of huge noise and turbulence. At speed the buffeting was unbearable and the airstream was mid helmet. I looked at the upturned edge of the screen and thought it looked like a guillotine if I hit something. No thanks.

Well did you get the bike? What do you think? You made the right choice even if I am a little biased. I have a 2001 Sprint ST British Racing Green, the fast color.

Wind and screens as you are finding out are another one of those personal things. At the time I couldn't accommodate the helmet lifting and turb. of the stock screen. I ended having all three choices of MRA screens shipped from England. I settled on the racing screen and sold the other two. They were all good but the wind from the racing is just right for me. It's hits me on the tips of my shoulders and a little on the chest but no helmet thumping.

I would stay away from the cheaper ZG stuff and look at MRA. Far better materials, and many MotoGP teams use them. Well worth the money difference.

Hi! Steve, I did get it and love it. The tale of my ride back from AZ "Water, Wind, Fire...First ride" is posted for reading. Then I was out of town working at a camp for teens for a week and just today got it registered and road it to work. Runs like a top. Though I am fond of British Racing Green, the blue is soooooooooo niiiiiice.
