Faux exhaust tips
For those who might have wondered what the exhaust tips look like in black, here they are.
I had been thinking about changing the color so I figured, what the hec, why not. I had them powdercoated for $40 but afterwards thought I could have done it myself with a can of heat-resistant paint. Of course, the contrast is best if you have the "right" color.

Looks good...
Have you thought of painting the heat shield underneath as well as the screw heads?

I have a black 07 too, did you do that yourself Grae? If so, did you use any particular paint or would any heat resistant black paint do?
Cheers

Hi Kev,
I found a local fencing manufacturer that does large quantities of powder coating... they blasted the exhaust tips and then put them through with a batch of their normal products... all up cost Aus$20.00 and IMHO it finishes the tail end off just nice!
I had it done over 12mths ago and they still look the same as in the above pics.
If you were doing it yourself i think a heat resistant paint in Matt Black would come up really well.
Cheers, G

Thanks Grae, for less then $50 it wouldn't be worth painting them myself. Might look for a local business that does the powdercoating.
Cheers

I might try some black bolts but the heat shield is staying aluminum, at least until a different exhaust goes on there possibly.
I can say this. Overall, by comparing side-by-side pics, the stock silver definitely stands out more than the crinkle black. If my bike wasn't already mucho silver, I probably would have kept the tips silver.

Looks nice in all black... im considering masking off the 3 pipes and then painting the rest of the exhaust trim in black so all you see are 3 silver tubes.
My last St had a polished set of tails, triumph then stopped this version for the current painted version.
Has anyone tried to polish up the painted versions? my train of thought being highly polished tips but the mount plate painted in black?

ST,
That was one option I was considering. I was going to have the tips themselves done in "near chrome" and the back piece in black. Then they really would have stood out.
The powdercoat guy told me sometimes two-tone doesn't work but I got the feeling he just didn't want to have to do it over at his cost if it didn't work. As it was, he ended up doing mine twice anyway.

08 exhaust tips?
i will post picture when i get them back on the bike tomorrow. i sent them to quality plating in sterling, il. as you know, they are stainless steel. i had them dipped to get rid of the butt ugly gray cheap ass paint job. they will be polished to a mirror finish, just the tips. i will then paint the panel with vht low-gloss black. that way, the three tips will really POP out and make a statement! by the way, the all black also looks really cool! griff
