Dayem! The speedo on my Connie was spot on (confirmed by the GPS), but I finally got my GPS on the Sprint. We are talking an easy 5mph over on the speedo. I know that the GPS take a second or two to lock on, so I was holding steady at different speeds to track it. Consistently at least 5mph off, sometimes closer to 7mph.

On a funny note...on the Connie when I downshifted and smacked the throttle, the GPS and speedo went up about the same. I did a 6th gear roll-on on the ST this morning (started around 80, so 75 actual), the speedo was up to 105 before the GPS caught up to 100mph. Just so much get up and go.

I'm guessing there isn't any way to dial in the speedo more accurately. I'm OK, as long as it reads optimistic, that extra 5mph can be enough to save yourself a ticket.

Sprint speedo's have been reported as being up to appox. 10% on the optimistic side.

That seems to be the case with most motorcycles. My Concours is dead on, according to my GPS. Try convincing your riding buddies that their speedos are reading high. Sometimes, it's like pulling teeth to get them to go even 5 over in a 65 mph zone when their speedos are telling them they're doing up to 15 over.

This may interest you. BTW, I think the ST's speedos are a liitle more optimistic than the RS digital;

(posted 29-01-05)
"OK, I can verify my RS is reading 6% fast.......that's with half worn (7,000kms) Bridgestone Battleax 020's at correct pressure and run at 100 kph (62mph) and 120 kph
(75MPH) twice
So 100 is actually 94.25 (60 mph is 56.5)
and 120 is actually 113.25 (75 mph is 70.75)
I wonder if these digital speedos are pretty close across the RS range...maybe only tyres make the difference!

It's reasssuring to know that 120 on my clock in a 110 zone and 110 showing in a 100 zone should be OK with Mr Plod.

Incidentally, my Suzuki GSX14 and my old Mitsubishi Triton V6 were line-ball with the RS figures. My new Ford Falcon RTV is slightly less optimistic but I am convinced that all manufacturers make their speedometers read fast for whatever reason."

I added this to my Sprint. It only cost me $28. I bought the BC800.

The speed is dead acurate (confirmed with a GPS).

My g/f got a kick out of the top speed memory it has.

Cheers
