Dumb Ride Stories

In keeping with the Scary Ride Stories.

And yes I am this dumb.

No need for a wordy story the pictures pretty much say it all.

I could have turned around here and headed back on dry road; but how bad could it really be?

This is right after picking up my bike; fell over going about 10mph (16kph for DaveM). Going perfectly strait and coasting the front wheel washed out in the slush...

Oh ya this was last week in Flagstaff AZ....j/k it was New Years day in 07.

As before, most of mine are dumb too.

What is this? Did everybody wake up, look in the mirror and say, "Today we become masochists."

Aha,
3banger thanks for the consideration in kph

that road just looks scary!

I have done a lot of dumb things on a bike, I will put my memory box into gear and see what I can come up with.

This will be an interesting thread 3banger

Crazy Weather

G'day,

This was coming home from work on a Friday on the Sprint. Weather had been overcast and heavy rain was forcaste. I entered the first of a few tunnels on my way home. Got a few spits if rain between the tunnels - no big deal.

There is a sharp left hander as I exit the last tunnel ( Sydney cross city tunnel heading towards Anzac Bridge ) - Not expecting anything more than a bit of rain and all I can see is white.. This must have been the biggest hail storm I've ever seen... cant stop - cant pull over, just got to keep going till I get to some cover - but there isnt any....

The noise on my helmet is nearly deafening. So, very careful on the bends - and as luck would have it all the lights are green as I turn off Victoria Rd to head up to Balmain - hail seems to be getting heavier - finally I can pull over, but hang on - now I have a government bus up by arse, so I am continuing up Roberts St, was like riding on marbles, bike sliping all over the place, and a huge bus about 5 feet behind me. Must have been the devil driving that bus.

I got home, didn't drop the bike, some miracle in its self..

Geez, try a blizzard in February and a ride from Tulsa, OK to Fayetteville Arkansas at 0100am. 10 F 6" of snow and falling rapidly. no Vis. on a 1949 HD track custom with a bald rear tire. When my hands got too cold to stand it it was nice to be able to wrap them around the cylinder barrel. Most of the time I had my feet down skiing.

Or when I was stupid enough to wear boots with laces and got them tangled around the pegs.

Or when I forgot to put my feet down at a stop light with 2 pretty girls in a convert. next to me.

Or when I had the worst wreck I ever had on a .......Vespa. I actually high sided it. Sort of. Well, it did spit me over the top. My buddy Mikey tried to get the sales guy to have "Vespa Racer" embroidered across the shoulders of the new leathers I had made 2 years ago. Even tried to bribe him with $200.00. I got Mikey back though.

I can go on, and on, and on.

See, I told you,

Don

Harry, I remember that Sydney hail - about half the size of golf balls I recall. I can only imagine what it must be like out on bike.

I got hailed on in Perth the other day but it was little weeny ones. Still It was bit freaky - seems to do weird stuff to car drivers.

I went out in what I think was the wettest day of the year a couple of weeks back. Leather Jacket & Jeans just to see if I was still the military "hard man" I used to be. Maybe I was, maybe I wasn't but I sure was wet. Still, like our lunatic comrade 3banger seems to have exemplified, any conditions are good conditions just as long as we are on a bike.

G'day Phil..

You got it - huge hail, not a good day to take the bike to work.

And - how about that idiot bus driver, if I came off, no way he could have seen me or stopped in time..

What was DUMB about it was they predicted hail that afternoon - here I am at breakfast and the weather looked great - forecasters can never get it right - or so I thought..

As I've said to lots of people - there is NEVER a bad ride, just some rides are better than others..

Have a good week..

Easy answer

My dumbest ride was last week when my bike got totalled. Should have stayed home. Hell I would rather have been at work.
