GPS question

I know on the Tiger 1050 they come with a GPS connection, do the newer Sprint's have this connector. I know they have a GPS fuse.
thanks

Yes.

It is a 2 wire connector. It is on a 2" ~ 3" pigtail off the main harness under the right hand side of the headlight. It will be sealed with a snap on cap.

On my '08 Sprint the connector plug just needs the metal pins with wires installed to make it able to connect to my GPS, etc. I gave the plug to the Components Engineer at work and he found which pins are needed and ordered samples from Tyco/AMP for me. They arrived within a few days and I just need to add a couple of lengths of 24-20AWG wires. It beats the $18 Triumph wants for the GPS Connector and pigtail wires.

The Tyco part number of the pin is 173600-1. Here is a link to another source for the pins.

And you will then have an installation that negates the Zumo autopower off feature, and could run down your battery.

This is true, unless you install a simple toggle switch inline.

or just spent the 18 bucks from triumph and didnt have to install a toggle switch, order pins, buy bulk wire and take the time to create all of this....

Just a thought

How would using the Triumph assembled part eliminate the use of the toggle switch? As I understand it from reading other posts, the connector is not switched, so it would be hot all the time. You could also just turn the Zumo unit off with the switch on the unit.

The Triumph GPS connector is constant power. it is a hold over from earlier GPS technology and is not appropriate for the Zumo or any other unit with an internal battery and auto off feature.

Air_Bob, you are correct that an inline switch will work, but you are still negating the auto off function of the unit.

It is designed to allow you to maintain your current trip status if you power the bike off, say for gas or a meal. The way it works is that when you switch the ignition off it will automatically switch over to internal battery and present a screen asking if you want to stay on internal power. You either select 'yes' or 'no'. If you just walk away without making a selection, it shuts itself off after 15 seconds.

Why do you think an additional switch is better than that?

I have this connector and love it. I have 2720 without battery and aouto shut off so whatever it is I don't care. I've always wired all my GPS to a constant on circuit so I can work with them while the bike is off - sometimes you need 5-10 minutes of route adjustments of looking for a local point and don't need your bike to keep running all this time.

I found out that even running gps for 20 minutes doesn't put any noticeable drain on the battery. I use the GPS power switch to shut it off. Also when I am in the city - I just unlpug the extension, put the blank plug in place and have nothing dangling out when GPS is not in use
