Throttlemeister Adjustment

G'day learned friends.

I have noticed my Throttlemeister is getting progressively stiffer to operate. This after the bike has sat for a while, say a day or two.

When you first pull on the throttle it is very stiff and wont go back. Quick fix ( with engine off ) is to fully engage the throttlemeister a few times, ( full on/full off, repeat, repeat, repeat ) and then the first quarter turn of the throttlemeister is freed up and the throttle will return as normal. ( Ya still with me ?? )

So before I pull if off and maybe remove one or some of the washers, anyone had this symtom and come up with the same or a better fix ?? Will a squirt of WD 40 do the trick ??

Thx..

Harry-I haven't had any problems with mine. Just a thought, does the throttle work OK without the TM on? Possibly corrosion of the washers? Let us know what you find. Good luck.

NO WD-40, it's not a lubricant! It's a DE-greaser, so any lubricant that was put in there by the manufacturer would be dissolved.

Drop a dab or two or three of your chain lube down inside ( after removing it from your bike.. ) and that should help, then work it back and forth to get it everywhere inside the rings.

This is only a suggestion, I take no responsibility for you ruining your own $150 dollar Throttlemeister

The Throttlemeister is designed so that if properly adjusted, she will swing from too tight to too loose. You should not need any lube.

I would check the plastic piece that fits under the handgrip and presses against the Throttlemeister bar end. This piece may need replacing if it’s worn out (which is unlikely).

You don’t need spacers on the Sprint. You simply adjust your throttle housing left or right to set the clearance between the Throttlemeister and the throttle. The spacers are for bikes like BMWs that have a fixed throttle housing that is stationary.

I find that if I adjust my clearance in the winter months, she will be too tight in the summer.

If the '02 is the same as my '01, then the throttle is stationary, unless you file down the positioning "nub" that fits into the handlebar hole. I think WardenRoss has an '05 or newer model and they may be different. I did need to mess w the washers (spacers?) a bit to get them just right. I had the same issue, they seemed fine until a couple of months use, then I needed to readjust. But since then (3 yrs or so) it's been fine. I wouldn't use any lubrication as that negates the "friction" that I think is supposed to be there.

The apology from the fine Southern Gentleman is accepted. Now I must admit that the reason I know about that nub is that I broke it off because I wasn't wearing my bifocals... There's a small nut & bolt protruding thru the housing into that tiny hole now... Anyways, be careful about that nub when messing w the T'Meister...or in my case w new grips.

Good info....

Thanks guys.

I am at a friends house tonight, bunch of blokes with bikes, with a big garage and lots of tools. I'll have a look at the Throttlemeister and let you know what I find.

Also oil change time and a general checkover and tidy up.

Who would have thunk it... the +05 has a different throttle mechanism..
