'02-ST, 1st oil leak...

My 2002 Sprint ST with 24,000miles just started dripping oil from behind the front chain-sprocket. Leaving drips on the garage floor.

Anyone else's ST start doing this??

I remember another forum member (I think Decosse) was talking about the main shaft seal last year. From what I recall itwas a relatively easy fix.

He is a wealth of knowledge! Maybe PM him.

Have you removed the front sprocket cover?

It is most likely a pile of chain lube build up in there.

A lot of people over lube and it piles up under that cover.

have a look in there first before you get too worried.

I have 51'000kms on my '04 Sprint ST and no oil leaks.

Did you recently adjust your chain? Could be too tight and causing a gap in the shaft seal. Triumph single sided swingarms seem to like chains to run just a touch looser than many are used to. Not quite dirtbike loose, but certainly odd looking to new converts.

Did you recently lube your chain? Could just be oil flingoff accumulating in the cover, then dripping out.

Could be coming from the oil pressure sensor nearby. They have occationally leaked.
