DAYUM, you can buy another decent bike for that kind of coin. I would definitely learn how to do my own belts and valves for that price.

I had a 2005 ST3. It's a great bike. Really easy to ride. A lot more vibes down low than a Sprint (I had an RS). The ST3 has a great sound and is plenty quick enough. Most people like the stock seat but it actually gave me welts. The bike is very narrow so it's easy to get your feet down for us shorter folks. The bags are nice.

The bad: the paint was really fragile, easily scratched and marred. Maintainance sucks plain and simple. I knew that going in but I had a dealer that was five miles from where I work and always gave me loaners so that made up for it somewhat. Of course that dealer went out of business. After that I sold the bike as it was a hassle getting it serviced. I miss it though.

Just take one for a ride !!!! I took a used 05 standard ST3 for a spin. All I can say is WOW I absolutely LOVED it, had good power, smooth at speed, handled GREAT. I can't imagine how the S' version handles.

If you take the fairing panels off before taking it for service it will help in $$$ spent. One of the mechanics here said that racks up service time.

I was going to wait and get a 09 or 10 ST3 then I found out it's gone , ***
$15.5K for a S' would hurt but worth it !!!!

One thing... those ST3 fairings are a real pain to get on and off. Lot of owners install DZUS (spelling?) fasteners. I paid $10,500 for my
ST3 new in late 2005. The ST3s is supposed to be a REAL nice bike with ABS standard I believe. Shame they discontinued the ST line.

Other Motorcycle: Ducati 900SS/CR - sold!
Extra Motorcycle: Ducati 1098 - sold!
As mentioned above, the good ST3S points:

superb suspension
great handling
decent, easy to use hard bags
that Duc sound

The bad points:

easily damaged paint and vulnerable mirrors
high service and parts cost
comparatively poor mileage
