Took the bike to the dealer today...
...to get all my stuff fixed.
I left this morning at 9am to make my 50 mile drive to my Triumph dealer, which consists of driving on the capital beltway and then up 270 in rush hour traffic. It was disconcerting this morning when I went to start it and it cranked for 10 seconds, then I had to release the clutch, engage it again, and then it finally started after another few seconds and then backfired. Then a few minutes later when I was pulling away from a stoplight, it cut out. :P
Luckilly it didn't cut out on me on the beltway this time, and I made it there just fine and I also averaged 38.2 MPG (highway), which I was happy about considering on the last tank I only averaged 23.4 MPG.
I got there and went over everything that was wrong, and they pulled it into the shop and went to work. I went down to Panera to do some work, and three hours later I came back.
When I dropped off the bike, they said they were going to check the tune, throttle bodies, etc etc. I asked that they put on the Off-Road tune, and they said sure. I plan on getting the TOR pipe eventually, so this worked out well.
So, they installed a new fuel pump (mine was dead when I went to purchase it and they pulled one out of their demo unit so I could ride the bike until the new one came in), loaded the off-road tune, sychronized the throttle bodies, replaced the rear body panel where the exhaust bubbled it and adjusted the heat shield, replaced the front fender (which was scratched when I took delivery of it), and mounted the rails for the side cases (but I left the locks at home, so I have to go back to get the cases). They had to order the rubber mounts for the relays, as well as the heat shield kit to help deflect the heat from my legs. I will also call them and mention the bubbling of the windscreen tinted area, as I just read this was a common problem of the '06s.
I was excited to test everything out, and on my 50 mile ride back home I noticed the engine was considerably smoother now and even sounds better. It used to sputter and vibrate between 2500-3500 RPM, and now it was butter smooth. It also seemed to be more responsive, as well as slightly more powerful. Probably from a combination of the TBs being aligned as well as the new tune. Best of all, I averaged 49.3 MPG on my drive home, a substantial increase.
So I have my fingers crossed that after these last few things get taken care of, hopefully I won't have any more issues.
