Wow!

I'd be very interested in the story behind that pic. There doesn't appear to be too much damage, other than the rear-end.

BMW's seem to be having many problems with the rear-ends. Many had failed during the past Iron Butt. A friend of mine had his transmission lock up on his while he was close to home and going at a slow speed. Thank God he was going slow at the time and not going around a corner.

That's a Rockster, which is my old bike:



There is a lot of talk about the rear ends failing (especially the final drive) on BMWs, but I never had any issues. I just changed the final drive fluid every 6k miles and it was fine.

Obviously something had to hit the bike, or he hit something, to cause that damage.

didnt two of the three BMW's in "The Long Way Around" have subframe breakage right forward of the panniers?
