Sadly, my mother passed away in November, after a long illness.
My wife and I did our best to make my mums last few months as enjoyable as possible, spending as much time with her as we could. Towards the end, as my mothers condition deteriorated, it became difficult for everyone concerned, but I am grateful that I had the opportunity to spend that time with her.
Coincidently, my mother passed away on the same day as I picked up my Sprint and riding has really helped me to cope with things and keep my head straight.
Anyway, I will going for a ride today, to a place that meant something to my mum and I.

Mark, condolences. Riding has helped me through some hard times as well.
I'm lucky enough to still have my mom. She actually posed for a picture with my bike while I was on my way to Texas:
Happy Mother's Day everyone. Call your mom if can, remember her if you can't.
Cheers,
-Kit

Mark - I hope that the day was one of reflecting on the great things about your late mother, and good memories.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
It wasn't my intention to dampen the mood of the thread. I guess I just wanted to remind those that still have the good fortune to have their mothers around not to take it for granted. Make an effort, stay in touch, spend some time with them, and not only on mothers day.
In today's world, with our busy lifestyles and ever increasing demands on our time, we sometimes forget the things that are *truely* important, like spending time with our loved ones.

Mum says hi
We thought we'd surprise her with a proper English bike to ride to tea & crumpets.

Mum
My mum had a stroke on New Year's Day 2006. Not a good start to that year. She was left semi paralysed in a nursing home but in the best of care.
On Mother's Day yesterday I decided to visit her on my bike and arrived wet after a big black cloud burst open on the highway. The flowers were stuffed in the panniers so they were ok. I had a nice visit with mum and spoon fed her her favourite breakfast, poached egg and bread and butter. After seeing mum I went riding with my Ulysses mates. I got speaking to one of the guys at brunch and found out his wife worked at the nursing home and was the nurse on duty at the time of my visit - it's a small world.
Today I got the phone call - mum passed away at 11.00 am today. The last time I saw her alive was on Mother's Day. She died quickly and peacefully - no fuss, just closed her eyes and left us for another place. That is the best way to go.
She was very prescious.
RIP My much loved mum.

NNELGS955, I was saddened to read of your loss, please accept my heart-felt condolences.
My mother's health problems also began with a stroke around 17 years ago, which left her paralysed on her right side. She managed to maintain her independence for most of that time, until around 6 months before she passed away, when a series of smaller strokes meant she could no longer care for herself and she moved into a nursing home close to us.
One thing I will always remember about my mother is the incredible inner strength she showed, regardless of the obstacles life threw at her, I don't think I ever heard her complain about her predicament.
Once again, please accept my condolences.

Thanks mate,
my mum never complained about anything either. She had a heart of gold and didn't want to be a burden to anyone. Glenn (aka nnelgs955)
