I guess I don't get it?

Dynos do not measure horsepower, so was there a reason to exclude the torque curve on the print out?

My guess is that it's because most people brag HP. The sportbike magazines also seem to market the HP numbers and redline (especially on the front page) more than torque.

I had a class with a kid who was telling me that his 600RRRRRRR made 120 HP. I asked him what kind of torque it made and the RPM needed to produce the 120 HP. I was answered by a dumb look and some babbling about what the salesman told him.

Ummmm ok I was looking at this and thinking that it is neat and all but what a useless dyno chart. Is this the retail version?

Me thinks OnD eluded to it when he said a dyno doesnt measures hp. A dyno measures torque and torque only. A calculator measures estimated hp using a whole bunch of mathematical equations based on torque.

This dyno didn't except quarters, sit outside of Walmart and also tell your fortune did it?

HA! Ok I am just being fecisious.

You nailed it, Cal.

Dynos measure torque, and than calculate horsepower.

DynoJet has an outstanding marketing plan and has saturated the market with their products. Some tuners consider their caculations to be optimistic, therefore discount single runs as irrelevant.

Multiple runs, performed by a certified operator, in a controlled environment, using a machine that is calibration current are necessary for relevant data.

LOL at the quarters.

I am guessing that this was a feeby since they witheld the pertinent data. More of that enticing marketing stuff.

Actually, most of the folks there seemed more interested in the maximum SPEED their bike hit on the dyno..................like that means anything at all

The whole day was a bit of an eye opener for me:

  • Many of the bikes had flaws and problems
  • Many of the problems were safety issues, yet they all claimed '170 mph runs"
  • Folks bought cheap cheap tires, then didn't understand why the bike didn't ride right
  • Most of them have very little mechanical or basic motorcycle knowledge
  • "Does ya gots a 190?" seemed to be a popular discussion, bigger rear tire was important
  • Most bikes had pipes, but weren't tuned for them, via Power Commander or download, and popped like crazy on deceleration

Hey-lots of shops or even some rallys have dyno runs for cheap-they use the portable DynoJet sometimes. I ran my modded Speedy on one in a trailer and pulled 170mph (the bike was geared way low and had TuneBoy rpm raised up +500-there is no way this bike would ever go this fast!) and 123.1 RWHP with no rpm or Torque figures-they- do not have to hook up all the leads to do this quickie mode but do provide the A/F mixture throughout the run. Valuable tool actually for cheap. I ran my modded Bonnie T100 also and it pulled 65.8 RWHP which is about what I was figureing. It was fairly lean and the operator said to put some fatter mains in it-I did and was very pleased with the result. The Speedy went home and got its mixture readjusted via the TuneBoy -it runs very well now.
Both bikes were just a bit off on the mixture. Good to know and fix w/o spending a great deal of money.
Since thiose runs I have changed the exhaust to a Zard on the Triple and put Keihin 39 FCR racing carbs on the T100. I suppose I need to revisit a dyno, but the bikes are running very well!!
These runs are not total waste IMHO-they can work for you.

Hey, the 750 Gixxer found out he was making lot's of noise and only 40 hp

He just bought it, so hopefully he can do something about it. May save him some $$
