replacing my rear tire-front too?

seems the last life of my Pirelli Diablo strata is at an end.
LAst time around I replaced the front and the rear at the same time both were the Diablo stratas.
I put 12,500 kms on them.

whats your thought on keeping the front?

and do you think it's okay to try out the new Michelin pilot road 2 with the remaining Pirelli on the front? or should I keep with the same manufacturer?

thanks in advance!

i would wear out the front first. but if money is no problem with you match them up. I ran an avon on back and a dunlop up front through several tire changes. although once the storms came out, i put both storms on front and rear. i like the profile of the storm front, but this is on a RSwarrior, not on the sprint. by the way I bought a sprint today .

If I am changing manufacturers alltogether I think I would change front and rear. If you were staying with Pirelli's I would wear the front out.

Congrats on the purchase wannbe

I've always heard that you are supposed to run a matched pair of tires on a cycle.

Excuse me!

I thought tyre questions were supposed to be held in abeyance until Dave has had a chance to wake up.

My preference

is to only use a matching set, sometimes I keep the other tyre in my garage and then change back later.

Many will tell you it is rubbish and you can run un matched tyres.

Well of course you can.........but remember that tyres are designed to match front and rear tread patterns and some different brands tyre profiles are totally different.

If you aren't pushing the boundaries and riding in the dry it MAY not be an issue. many mix tyres but I DO NOT.

I have high regard for the PR2.

I run a car tire on my Valkyrie and an Avon up front.

I am currently running a mismatched set with a Michelin Pilot Road 2 up front and a not yet worn out Bridgestone BT021 on the rear with no problems. I know a matched set is preferred and I would also prefer to have a matched set but when my front needed replaced I did not have the cash (12k service is due) to replace a not yet worn out rear. I also asked the mismatch question on another forum I am on and the response I got that made the most sense was to make sure the tires have the same or similar profiles. If you have one that is rounded and one that is triangular (peaked, quicker turn in) you may end up with a bike that is unpredictably twitchy.
You might (I said, might) also want to avoid mixing categories of tires, IE: sport, sport/touring, touring etc. I would think that mixing categories may have some interesting effects on handling depending on the mix. YMMV.

Speed Safe,
Don
