California Super Bike School

Just finished the California Super Bike School level 1 this Saturday and boy, I have to say that I am totally hooked.

Great bunch of people with loads of good advise on making you a 100% better driver. Already signed up for level 2. Just wished there were more/better tracks near Athens to practice on.

Anyone able to complete the course should seriously consider doing it. As I said it makes you a 100% better driver.

DaveB: Sorry mate no toasted kneesliders on level 1. More about throttle control, bike positioning and 2 step turning.

We were told to keep our body leveled at all times.

Knee scraping and body positioning is done at lvl 3.
As for pics, already changed my Avatar with one of them

Way cool. Taking a class at Buttonwillow or Willow Springs is definitely on my list.

I did the two day class, and yes, my name is Super68 and I am an addict...

Really. Riding on the street just isn't enough anymore! I did the class at Streets of Willow Springs and it was great. The instructors were great, the whole crew bent over backwards to make it an enjoyable learning experience. You will learn more than you ever realized you didn't know... I haven't taken other classes so I don't have anything to compare it to but certainly highly recommended nonetheless.

Now I just need a Daytona 675 for the track...

Good fun all of this. As a sober (?) reminder please remember that the cornering skills that you learn with a school like the superbike school are not that good with 'real world' and 'on the road' riding situations. Things like bike placement in a corner when attempting to maintain good speed on a track are likely to be plain old wrong on the road. On road you need to be aware of other things such as vehicles either behind or approaching from the front (obvious risks) or for the unknown piece of road rash or critter about to run in front of you (not so obvious risk) and other stuff that is either trying to kill you or which might make you crash. On a track at a ride day the risk profile is reduced a lot to basically that of your own capacity and decision making skills. If you ride to one of these schools be very careful of your own attitude when you leave to ride home. And then the next day remind yourself that it is a road you are on and not a racetrack. Sometimes though it then becomes sort of painful to remain legal on the road. All the same learning track skills and quietly testing yourself is f.....g good fun.
Enjoy yourselves. Cheers Simmo

Ship me a new Daytona and I promise to ride the Sprint like a grandmother when on the street...

Hey Wintermute:

Did you do the class on a Sprint? How was it? I used one of the school's zx6rs and it was a nice bike but lacked torque (after getting used to the Sprint).

And where did you take the class?

Ertes:

California Superbike School does classes at Willow Springs, Laguna Seca and some other tracks. You should be able to find one that fits you:
