GPS mount for a Garmin 550

The 550 is a car unit. I can't see way it cannot be used on a bike except for the fact that it cannot get wet. It has suction cup mount for the the windshield with a ball swivel. Has anybody heard of one of theses mounts been converted to be used on the bike. I cant see paying another 5 bills for a new unit and I the love the Garmin.

"The 550 is a car unit."

THE GARMIN ZUMO 550 is primarliy a motorcycle unit supplied with a car mount.

There are many different devices for attachment to your motorcycle on the market. Search on ZUMO in this forum or have a look at: http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php.

I used the simple Telferizer mount which is a bolt and RAM ball which replaces one of two bolts holding on the left hand handlebar.

Yeah the 550 is a motorcycle specific unit that can be used in a car. It is water resistant as well. Garmin and Ram make many different mounts. As a matter of fact the Zumo/NUVI systems use a common mount so there are many mounts available.

I don't know what has led you to think that, but if you do doubt the previous posters, just go to the Garmin web site and you will see they are correct.

Garmin also makes a c550 in their Street Pilot line. Maybe he was referring to that one instead of the Zumo 550. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=385

Speed Safe,
Don

Yep that clears it up but I think the advice is the same.
