POTD - fender eliminator (homemade) and Speedo-healer

POTD - Projects of the Day

After a fun ride this am with 5 BMWs, I decided to tackle some upgrade projects.

The Speedohealer was a FAIL. I was too tired after doing the fender, and there's too much stuff crammed under the fuel tank to trace the speedometer wiring. Selling it and getting a Tuneboy is looking like a better option.

The fender & clear alternatives tail light went much better

I DID NOT buy a fender eliminator kit. This was done 100% with factory parts and a stereo cable cover. I'm pretty happy w/the results, though I will get something to ensure it's all water tight.

I did not use the resistors that come with the Clear Alternatives tailliight. It doesnt' blink that fast, and I didn't want the added wiring and heat sources.

I do not have a white light illuminating the license plate - I need to double check that the tail light isn't enough, then get some nice little LED if needed.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<UPDATED April 18th>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Well, haven't done anything about the speedohealer yet.......

but, I did get in the parts suggested by OND and redid the tail.

Very nice, thanks OND!

Looks pretty slick. Is that your hunting license below your plate? :

You might want to photochop your plate number out. The Texas DMV is currently being flooded by calls from Nigeria.

Here are some old pics showing how to do it on a clean bike.
The first pic shows the factory bracket that is retained after getting rid of the superflous plastic tag/turnsignal/mud flap assy. I painted the bracket silver.

Attachment 5179

Attachment 5180

This picture does not adequately illustrate the tail light brightness. It actually contains more LEDs than the stock unit.
And yes, I know I did not spell ClearAlternative correctly.

All of the pannier mount stuff and pillion peg brackets have been removed since this picture. I really makes for a clean look.

Find the pink/yellow wire that goes from the sender on the transmission to pin A21 of the ECM - cut & splice the 'healer into that wire.

If you do want to regain the proper flash rate, get an electronic Relay - plug n play and no wiring/splicing required - just replace the OEM with the new one.

I was just wondering about the licence plate holder. Too cool for school. I'd do THAT in a heartbeat.
