How long is your average ride?

As I was planning this mornings breakfast run and thinking about what time I had to be home by, it made me wonder what an average weekend/after-work ride time looks like.

On average, I aim for about 4-5 hours.

I try to make time for a 3 to 4 hour trip mostly on Sundays either to meet up with my parents or one of my buddies for lunch and a cigar. I live about 2 hours and 15 munutes from my parents and where I grew up. A beautiful day and great weather makes my 06 Sprint irresistable! During the week I have a very short commute to work. I only live a half mile from my office! Not much time to ride during the week, but my round trip mile commute is short but very sweet.

I am fortunate enough to work from home and also fortunate that I live on a Peninsula with some great coastal roads. Most days I try to find the time for a quick ride to the top of 'Arthurs Seat', a local hill that's popular with riders.

The climb up the hill is quite challenging (especially in the wet), with a lot of tight hair-pins and I find the level of concentration required really helps to clear my head. I usually stop at the top to have a smoke and a chat with any other riders that happen to be up there.

The round trip, including the stop, normally takes about 1 to 2 hours, depending on the weather.

On most weekends I try to go on a longer day trip, with my wife on the back. These trips average about 6-8 hours return.

Overall, I find the Sprint to be the perfect bike for what I do. I think the only bike I'd ever swap the Sprint for, would be another (later model) Sprint.

Although I enjoy touring, most of my rides are mundane commuting or errand running.

Average ride

My average ride lasts over 6 hours. I like to leave right after rush hour (9am) and return for dinner. So that makes it 6-8 hours. The mileage isn't too great, mainly because it's mostly twisty's, food and stopping for pictures, but by the time I get home, I'm pretty well beat.

Probably 3 to 4 hours for an average short ride and when time permits either a day ride, say 8 hrs and 600km's or so. Better still a few days on the road at a time usually say 2000km's about thrice or more a year. Summer winter , it doesn't matter, but I am not to keen on 35 deg C and above.
Cheers, Simmo

Unfortunately my "Average Ride" is 23 miles each way with 12 hours in-between. Work is always getting in the way of a good day of riding. BUT...when I ride on my day off it is usually 4-5 hours with a stop for food in there somewhere.
