Folks,
In case you were unaware, the nanny state (meaning those folks we actually elected into office---ok sorry for the editorial) is overstepping its bounds again (oops, there I go again,) trying to pass new legislation specifically against motorcyclists and certain freedoms we enjoy as motorcyclists. I refer specifically to HB-0137 & SB-802, the bills designed to prohibit certain stunt riding on public roads and improper display of tags. Please do not misinterpret my message- I do NOT condone inappropriate riding behavior or the inability of law enforcement to read a tag but legislature like these two proposed bills are aimed at a specific class of folks, meaning us motorcyclists, and that makes it wrong, period. The proposed penalties for these offenses is outrageous. I urge each of you to link up to the AMA site & send a quick e-mail to each of the state senators and representatives that represents your district, along with the bill's various authors. The whole thing didn't take me 15 minutes & that included writing this note to you all!
I am attaching a draft of the e-mails I sent the 7 reps and senators that govern my district. Feel free to amend as you see fit. This must be done ASAP as there will be a vote in the house on Tuesday regarding their version of the bill.

Dear Senator/Representative (insert name)
I strongly urge you to vote against (house bill: H-0137, senate bill: SB-802). It provides penalties far in excess of similar state statute violations and is specifically directed towards motorcyclists. There are already enforceable statutes on the books that address reckless driving and improper tag display; in addition, state statutes already address those violations with more appropriate and reasonable penalties. This bill, however, specifically targets motorcyclists as a class, inflicting even greater penalites than that of other drivers, and that is inappropriate and unfair.
Thank you for your time, understanding and support.
Sincerely,
(insert your name)
