Brand and model?
Inspect all of the ground connections.

Ond garmin nuvi,
Wondering if extra earth cable from battery to frame would help?

rodsprint,

The electrical system on these bikes is fairly noisy. This type of noise is fairly easy to filter, but I have to ask a question. Is the power to your GPS switched (with the ignition) or unswitched?

If unswitched, you should try adding a fairly large value capacitor dierctly across the power wires to the GPS. Polarity is important. I say unswitched because surge currents into the cap would probably damage your ignition switch on a switched circuit.

A good unswitched circuit is the factory GPS circuit.

I have a couple 56,000uF caps here that are about 1" dia by 1.5" length. That won't help you much in Australia but it gives an idea of the size. Anything that value or better should help. Large value caps are available at car audio shops.

Yep CLB is right. You can get radio isolators from radio shack and such. Echlin and Blue streak also make them avaible at your local auotparts store but pick a good one because you will need to find a counterman who has been around a while and remebers these things.

Rod,

If you try the fix (differential) and still have noise, add a short wire between the negative cap terminal and chassis (common mode) leaving all other wiring as is.

You are likely to get a small spark when you first charge the cap. Don't worry about it unless you want to. If you must worry, get a 1 Ohm 5 watt resistor to precharge the cap before connection. Use it before you connect battery terminals in the future as well. Again, it shouldn't be required.
